Ohhhh... Oh, thank you so much, Rob. I needed that, especially after a very depressing weekend in which I've become an 80 year old man before I'm 30 (thank you gravity for fucking up my leg), and my girlfriend and I amicably parting ways (still damn close friends, though), and a painful as hell day of retail trying to hobble around on gimpy legs and a cane. That Colbert spit-take alone made my day so much better. Thank you, Rob.
Only problem about this announcement is that it doesn't give us a timeframe for the series. We could very well be starting the series in a "2008 timeframe" making the whole series a prequel leading up to the "Avengers Movie timeframe" in 2012, where Coulson actually does die. Until we know the format, I will be happy Gregg will be reprising his role, but I still am skeptical if JW retcons the character into being alive through some type of story sleight of hand...
While I understand how you feel, I don't exactly share your sentiments. JW has proven time and again that he could make an asspull plot device look rather, well, tasteful, if the Buffy TV series were any indication. And while I'm worried that the introduction of an LMD might cheapen the man's sacrifice somewhat, if there's anyone on Earth we can trust to pull a decent story with it, it's Whedon.
Waiting for tomorrow's news where Whedon does a take back and then the fap ends with a knife... or gun.

my question was then, will this series be pre-Avengers or post-Avengers and will the explanation behind Coulsons death be explained in a satisfying way if it is post-Avengers, we shall see. Now confirm Maria Hill in the show and this will be awesome
I'm not sure about Colbie Smulders being in it, since "People I Slept With Before I Met Your Mother" is getting a new season. On that note, wow, really? How I Met Your Mother is getting ANOTHER season?! REALLY?!
nooooooooooo! Im still holding on to hope that this news isnt official yet. I am a MAJOR HIMYM fan and even I want it to end already because it is slowly becoming a parody of itself. The creators even admitted they were treating Season 8 (current season) as the final season and they were pretty much going to do a tacked on story for Season 9 if the network forced them to renew it. Even Neil Patrick Harris admitted he was only going to stay on if it "financially" made sense, meaning he only cares for the paycheck and not the story! I want to continue to have my Cobie Smulders weekly fix but I want it in a brand new fresh show about Coulson and his SHIELD agents, not a "How I Met Your Mother And Dragged Out The Story" Season 9. HIMYM is becoming the anti-Firefly, a show which is renewed when it doesnt need to be renewed!

Well, they can always say that the Coulson who died, was a Chitauri fanboy. And the real Coulson was busy helping his pal Dr. Strange fight the ancient one Dormammu.
There is a possibility that an LMD was used, too, since Tony joked about it so gleefully at the start of the film.

But I fear we may not get much Coulson, as the series (or perhaps pilot only) will take place shortly before the events of Avengers. And when it's obvious the events in Avengers are about to come/pass, we'll probably be left with yet another bitter sweet sorrow moment when we realize Coulson's running off to do something he won't be coming back from. IT'LL BE WATERWORKS ALL OVER AGAIN! Dammit Joss!
Whedon did say he'll be a showrunner. And there's also that crack Gregg made about LMD and The Vision.

Meh. Though it does sound like Coulson's life model decoy is going to wind up being vision. I don't know how that is going to work in conjunction with Wonder Man, Ultron and all the other backstory of that Vision though.
@vangald They'll just have to sacrifice artistic integrity and Vision's amazing story to make a few extra bucks, that's how.
figured Coulson was not really dead in the avengers kept hoping it was a lmd and that maybe he would either return as the vision or joss would have him back in the shield tv show. and the reaction proves dismarvel knew what they were doing with joss and avengers

Well not bad news, but he could be used in anything from flashback to shapeshifter. Now when I see him back on the big screen I will be more excited.

@Someguy I dunno - I thought his Marvel mini-movies were awesome and they weren't big screen. Anyway comic book continuity is so flexible I just ignore anything I dislike.
