The Munsters Reboot Is Done-sters, But... (UPDATE)

Update: Bryan Fuller says Deadline is a liar and that NBC hasn't passed, at least not yet, and I think he'd be in a position to know. So maybe we'll get Mockingbird and more Pushing Daisies. Oh, perchance to dream!

And in shitty TV news, Bryan Fuller's utterly bizarre-looking Munsters reboot Mockingbird Lane -- the one that starred Eddie Izzard as Grandpa Munster -- is dead, as NBC is passing on the series. As well all know, NBC has such a surplus of quality shows, it can easily afford to skip out on a series from someone as talented as Fuller, secure in the knowledge that they can probably stick a repeat of SVU in there and no one will notice because no one's watching NBC anyways.

There is a silver lining, though -- Bryan Fuller has hinted that Starz may be interested in bringing back Pushing Daisies, which would be TOTALLY FUCKING AWESOME. And now Fuller is free! As curious as I am about Eddie Izzard as a Munster, I'd toss Mockingbird Lane in a dumpster in a heartbeat if it meant one more episode of the wonderfully macabre Pushing Daisies. What a lazy shitty concept anyway. Take a show that was nothing but a comedy about a family of general classic monsters, and strip all that out to be some weird drama that has nothing to do with the old show, the monsters, or anything memorable from the original.

Hey Bryan Fuller, here is a thought, why not just take what you had, and remove the Munsters part entirely as you basically already did, fuckface.

I am starting to think Hollywood and TV studios have a legitimate allergy or fear of originality.

This is good news to me... This pic, and the storyline that goes with it, never made me think of "Munsters" in any way. To begin with, NONE of the actors pictured look anything like the munsters... Marylin here looks like a middle-aged actress trying to play marylin. Grandpa Munster, Lily, Herman, and Eddie look like ANY family from ANY sitcom/drama. ECCH!

I really don't know if I could have taken a Munsters reboot without the characters being takes on classic Universal monsters, anyways.

If it's untrue, I'll be glad to get the chance to watch Mockingbird Lane. The cast alone is reason enough, though who am I kidding -- I'd watch anything Fuller makes.

If it's true, I'll be glad to get the chance to watch more Pushing Daisies. That show was its own special kind of awesome and I miss it.

Rob, this was all your fault, you know. All the times you had articles about the new series, you basically smeg-canned it, so you should be exicted that Hollywood listened to you for once...

I was interested in the potential, at the very least. I'm just guessing that NBC willl fill the void with a new L&O spin-off of Jerry Brisco: The Early Years... played by Justin Bieber...

At least Boomerang is showing the original Munsters this October. Al Lewis was and is Grandpa.

@js16nite @skrag2112 I guess technically Munsters qualifies as a cartoon. It was certainly goofy enough. But damn, that's a slippery slope if Boomerang starts airing ANY live action shows. Level Up got another season which just makes me want to punch someone.

@js16nite @skrag2112 Boomerang is owned by Cartoon Network. It was the first expansion before Adult Swim started operating as a separate entity for ratings (which, it's worth noting, just expanded again, so it's only a matter of time before it breaks off into its own channel. Which means All Family Guy, All The Time.)
