Not to be "that nerd", but isn't Adama's pistol loaded with standard bullets? Don't those require um.. what's it called.. my cousin likes the stuff...
oh yeah, oxygen?
@Ford_Thundercougarfa Assuming there's a tight enough seal between the bullet and the cartridge it'll still work. And there should be. Besides, a space-faring civilization that issues sidearms to pilots presumably makes sidearms that work in a variety of environments.
@CaptainZADL You're right. I completely forgot the Mythbusters episode where they fired guns underwater. If memory serves, they were only good for one shot, though.
Off to the YouPorn.. I mean YouTube!
@CaptainZADL I'll give that. You would think they would have weapons pointed in more then one direction being that space wouldn't have the drag on ballistics that our atmosphere does. Also video monitors on a HUD system so they wouldn't need a cockpit to be the only way to see.
Although I wonder, is the ratio of oxygen and gunpowder enough in a small cartridge to propel a ballistic with enough strength to penetrate an enemy ship?
@Someguy I'm thinking that if they made a sidearm capable of killing a Toaster, it'll mess up a ship too.
@Someguy @CaptainZADL the propulsive force is greater inside a vacuum - less resistance. They did fire a revolver in a vacuum in some science channel show. Main problem with automatics is that (aside from the temperature making the springs so brittle that they won't work) the lubricant tends to turn into a granular powder and jam the weapon.
