Visit my local video store? Oh, you mean my local Blockbuster, or maybe Hollywood Video, or Easy Video, how about Palm Video (who had that adult section in the back behind curtains). Well, I guess if all those are closed, you think I can use Compuserve or Prodigy to find voting information? Maybe my 10 free hours of AOL (which became 200 free hours in the late 90's).
Look. I don't really believe all the horrible things J. Jonah Jameson says about Spider-Man in his Daily Bugle editorials, and I'm pretty sure Spider-Man had the best of intentions when filiming this voting PSA. All I know is that if the monitors who work the voting locations don't forbid you from voting if you tell them "Spider-Man sent me!", they probably should.
More links from around the web!
Who is this even for? 18 year-old kids should not be swayed by Spider-Man, younger kids shouldn't be voting.
Problem in most of the country is apathy.
No one votes in the primaries, where your choices are selected, and so you inevitably end up with the choice of party hack A and party insider B. In the county where I live 532 people turned out to vote in the last (non-presidential) primary - with over 800,000 residents. As a result everything here is run by a very cozy two party cartel of incompetence and corruption working hand in hand. Not even getting into how four of our county commissioners is on trial for selling their votes - three of whom have made deals to rat out the others - and all of whom were re-elected today since they all ran unopposed.
I love how "video store" was somehow a magical gathering place where all people went for such information, and not just to rent Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey on VHS.
You know I don't think Spiderman is his legal name. So is Spiderman telling me to do voter fraud?
I tried to follow his advice and go to the video store to register but Redbox was no help at all!
