Best superhero cartoon until Rocksteady creates the Batman cartoon I've been fantasizing about.
As you may know, Disney XD's excellent The Avengers: Earth Mightiest Heroes aired its finale yesterday. Would it be too much hyperbole for me to call Story Editor Chris Yost an entertainment alchemist? The label is fitting since he managed to combine action, complex scripting and comedy that never felt forced together in order to give viewers what was arguably the greatest superhero cartoon ever. (An opinion I will hold until my dying day). There's a welcome retrospective about the series at Marvel.com that features reflections from Yost. Better still is the above eulogy that showcases the show's accomplishments through insights from its production staff and the talented voiceover actors who brought the characters to life in each episode. Its replacement series, Avengers Assemble, will debut on Disney XD next year. With any luck you'll be done mourning EMH by then. Though probably not. As far as I can tell, the only positive to come out of this whole debacle is that we will never have to suffer through the alt rock aural rape that is the "Fight As One" theme song again. Hey, that's something at least. (Via Newsarama)

If everybody at Marvel is sad to see A:EMH go . . . then why is it going? It sucks that the final episode had the team defeating Galactus, yet it falls prey to an even deadlier nemesis: Loeblactus.
There's going to be debate as to whether A:EMH or the Justice League series were better. I can say that A:EMH managed to blend canon from comics and movies with little difficulty. When did we learn Hulk could be a valued Avenger? It wasn't this year . . . it was last season on A:EMH, when Cap told the big fella that he saw a hero, not a monster. We got to see Avengers that won't be in the movies for awhile, like Black Panther, Wasp and Vision. We had moments of awesome hilarity, like Hulk abusing Thing to the point where he used him as a club to beat Doombots with. It contained 125 percent of the required ass-kicking needed for viewers' health. And now we've going to pave paradise because Jeph Loeb wants his own series. How does that make sense?
@lantern75 It doesn't. Season 1 was great. Disney seemed to give up on it in Season 2 and the show suffered.
and also hated that they put in that monolog of nick fury at the begining and cut out some of the song.
hate to see the thing go espically when they did not get around to have quicksilver and scarlet witch show up . but loved how they had the avengers final adventure till the new series turn out to have them having to stop Galactus minus the silver surfer as one of his heralds. plus hated that they stopped Galactus by sucking him into a black hole into the negative zone. instead of maybe having thor use Milnior to give Galactus some energy or iron man rigging up something to feed hm and send him away.
Oh for fuck's sake. Chris, please don't take to using 'rape' to describe things other than ACTUAL RAPE. That's a horrendously shitty comparison.
Did anyone else find that yesterday's finale was crap? Like tacked on crap? Like Justice League Unlimited's Epilogue crap? No? Just me then?
@DoctorOddfellow Not crap exactly, but tacked on? Yes. And given the subject matter it should definitely have been more than one episode. I mean, that kind of fight, with all of the people involved, deserved to be one hell of a finale.
YES! This is an episode that could have easily been expanded to three episodes. Plus, "This is how the world will remember the Avengers." *cut to title*
Are you joking?! That song was awesome! Hell, the fact that they cut it short for that stupid monologue in the second season was one of the signs that the show was going downhill. It's one of the things that I'll miss the most.
@alexr5 I too liked the song and was disappointed when they cut it in favor of a monologue which left out so many of the damn Avengers anyway.
@alexr5 Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. I had a bad feeling when they started using the monologue.
I loved the earlier episodes of EMH. I'm not a fan of the later episodes. I think after the original producers left the show changed for the worse. It these last episodes are any indication of what the new Avengers Assemble will be like, then I'm not that hyped.
It feels like when Spectacular Spider-man ended and Ultimate SM was being talked about all over again, and we've seen how that turned out.
"to give viewers what was arguably the greatest superhero cartoon ever. (An opinion I will hold until my dying day)"
Uhm no, that would be Justice League Unlimited
Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, but I liked the original Justice League a lot more than I did JLU.
While I loved JLU, I have to say I'm liking Young Justice a lot better, now.
Well, I *was*, anyway, until Cartoon Network pulled it and put it on hiatus in the middle of the season with no warning. JERKS.
greatest MARVEL superhero cartoon ever, sure.
Young Justice is not only telling an amazing story but the animation is also leagues ahead of what Avengers Assemble was doing. And it doesn't hurt that its the only place you can get the real DC Universe these days.
@jamawalk I'd argue Spectacular Spider-Man was slightly better than EMH. It had a more consistent quality.
"Fight As One" has become my favorite alternative to Rickrolling. Easily one out of every five links I send to my friends results in that video popping up when clicked.
I get sworn at a lot.
@Mike_Pants Friend or no, I would beat you down. That song makes me wither inside.
Ever since Disney got the rights to Batman: the animated series and edited the fucking episodes I've been distrustful of their motives. I'm watching you Disney... bastards.
@East_Threadly Well, obviously you're watching them. Whose channel do you think Avengers: Earth Mightiest Heros was on?!
I liked EMH. I hope AA will be a real sequel to this and not the derailing it feels like right now. I guess I won't know until I see it.
The rumor is that AA will indeed be a sort of sequel/reboot. It will maintain continuity from EMH, but will recast voice talent (the real bummer) and use a different art style, along with a different core team of characters.
I hope so. Maybe we'll luck out and it will turn out to be EMH but with better art.
@nix.nightbird @Someguy It's not a rumor. It was officially announced as a sequel to EMH. Rob just never shared that info because he was too busy complaining to listen to what was being said.
@Someguy I'm hoping it's kind of JLU where Justice League happened but it's not absolutely necessary to watch before watching Unlimited.
@Someguy That's the spirit! And if you pray to Abraxas, it may even happen! But, you have to pray REAL hard.
@Umbra_di_Angelo I'ts so hard to do the sacrifice. How about eating a Ham sandwich, what will that get me?
actually stopped watching EMH when they announced it would be canceled
if they can't be bothered to support their own product why should I?
Not bothering with Assemble at all.
@Gallen_Dugall I don't necessarily care of Disney supports their show or not, though it would obviously be better if they did, I just wish they would have aired the episodes in the right order. I mean, when Captain America inexplicably has an energy shield in one and then an episode or two later he is GIVEN the energy shield, you know something's not right.
I stopped watching it when all the episodes were available to watch online because they already aired overseas. I don't get Disney XD, anyway. To me the show ended months ago.
@Gallen_Dugall Some things Disney makes they support. Like, uh... well, er... well, it'll happen. You'll see!
@Bowser it is. Rob just never reported it because he didn't hear the official announcement over his own laments.
@Bowser No, that was just Jeph Loeb lying to the fans to make them not riot and boo him.
Meh. Never liked it that much to begin with. Not all that sad, really. More depressed about the G4 Marvel Anime.
