OK, I wasn't able to check TR yesterday. Did this really post at 11:45 pm?? Chris, what kind of hours are you working?

The sequel to the 2010 reboot Tron: Legacy -- called Tron 3 in some quarters -- is moving a step forward with Disney in negotiations to hire Jesse Wigutow to pen the latest draft of the script. While details are scarce at this point, it's probably safe to assume that Cillian Murphy will reprise his role as Edward Dillinger in the new film given how Tron: Legacy was setting him up as a heavy. Amongst the questions for you to ponder as you drift off to sleep with visions of light cycles zooming through your head: Will Jeff Bridges return? Will original Tron director Steven Lisberger be involved in any capacity? Can Daft Punk please do the soundtrack again? And so on. One thing that's for certain is that as soon as more news on this sequel breaks, Topless Robot will be all over it like white spandex on the Tron Guy. End of line.
Joseph Kosinski, who directed Legacy, is attached to helm this installment, which is being developed with a renewed purpose under Alan Horn, who took the reigns of Disney Studios in June.
Some considered the dark and trippy Legacy -- which teamed newcomer Garrett Hedlund with Jeff Bridges, star of the 1982 original Tron -- a lukewarm performer when it opened in December 2010. But the film grossed $400 million worldwide, good enough to spark interest in prolonging the franchise. With that foundation and a strong brand, Disney believes it can really go for broke with a new movie.
Plot details are being kept under wraps. David DiGilio wrote an earlier draft of the script. Justin Springer, a co-producer on Legacy, is producing Tron 3.

I'd love to see a return to the grid of the original Tron, but I doubt that will happen
I'll give my nonexistant firstborn child for Daft Punk to do the soundtrack again. Tron 3 is gonna be great, I've got a feeling in my gut that it'll be good.
...it just doesn't feel the same, though, reading a Tron article on Topless Robot without knowing that Rob is furiously wanking off to it. I mean, he is somewhere, but...still not the same.
Doesn't mean we don't love you though, Chris!
I'd love to see The MCP return as the mysterious leader of a rebel faction like Kuato.
The next Tron movie is something I can wait for very patiently, since the Tron: Uprising cartoon is kicking major ass
nice to see Disney finaly see that they have a good if done right franchise like tron . for who would given how the very first film did not do well its first time who would have thought now another tron film would be in the works
I hope this directly follows the DVD extra which charts what happened IRL in between films.
As well as the other DVD extra that implies that Dillinger and, somehow, the MCP are working together.
Poor Hollywood Reporter...it seems they now instinctively perceive new installments in any movie series as "reboots," even when they're a straight sequel.
I loved Tron Legacy so to see a third movie come our way then i am very excited.
Tron: Legacy was an okay movie, by no means my favorite of the season (although I do have the soundtrack. . . love me some Daft Punk). I could see a sequel being fun if they move in a different direction.
Honestly, more than the news itself, I'm just excited that there was a breaking news report last night. Makes the site feel more alive.
it's just not the same reading about tron news without knowing rob is furiously masturbating while writing it. that really should be a good thing but it just makes me sad rob isnt here anymore. no offense to you, chris I know you'll do great (assuming you'r official) and have been doing great.
@10glfan59 this doesn't even resemble star trek but i kind of want to see it anyway
Wait a second. A post. On Topless Robot. At 11:30 PM! Inconceivable. Chris Cummins, when somebody asks you if you're a god.. YOU SAY YES!!
At least to me, it doesn't seem that likely Flynn will live again considering he (and Clu) blew up on that bridge in Legacy's climax- but maybe he kept a backup (separate from Clu) somewhere? He's not a program...but...
I may sound unreasonable here but I expect to see some Tron in my Tron movies
And as I head out for the day I leave you with this thought for the next time you get in an elevator
@Gallen_Dugall Audience laughing--- sadistic?
I admit it though, I chuckled- is there something wrong with me?
if they make it like the cartoon, it would actually be pretty good.wouldnt mind seeing tesler on the big screen - his hands are pretty dangcool in the cartoons
Tron: Uprising is pretty fantastic. I'd heartily recommend it for any fan of the series or animation.
My only problem is Disney XD keeps moving it around. If I didn't have TIVO I'd never flipping know when it aired.
The pilot still has one of my favorite actions scenes that I've ever seen animated, period.

Here's a link, queued up to the beginning of the scene. That's the full pilot episode, btw, that the network put on the web weeks before the show aired, which was pretty cool of them.
It be nice to see a connection with the Tron Uprising cartoon and this third movie. I wasn't wild about the ending of Tron Legacy, but I imagine that can be rectified better. I'd actually like to see Edward Dillinger character as the main character in the third and not just as a Villain. They really could do a good story closing the circle and rectifying his fathers original sin.
But no matter what, they'd better show a Bit.
@Someguy For all the times I've thought about what Tron 3 could cover, I never considered having Dillinger as the protagonist. Interesting idea, though.
@DylanRaishe @Someguy They hinted at this some in TR2N with Dillinger's son at the board meeting.
I won't lie, this feels weird. We all know that Rob is a die-hard tron fan, and it almost feels like we're cheating on him. With Chris. And tron 3 rumors.
Meh, I've had worse wednesday nights.
@DylanRaishe Rob left this relationship. So were having one of those, pity sex UH stories with Chris. Just shower real well and try not to look guilty when you see Rob.
@Someguy @DylanRaishe I'm trying to come up with a tron quote that fits this situation, but for some reason all I can think of is "That's a big door"
Somewhere Rob has went to the bathroom with a jumbo size bottle of Jergens. He will not be seen for two days minimum.
@10glfan59 Yep, all dressed up in his Tron costume.
I know a lot of people like to rag on the second Tron flick, but I liked it. I'm looking forward to a continuation of the story.
