I noticed they were selling a Tauriel & Legolas figure pack when I was Christmas shopping this year...I mean, is it really that hard to hold of on releasing these sorts of figures when there is pretty much zero interest in these iterations of the characters at this point? Just seems like poor planning to me.

The Hobbit on Facebook "So, Mr. McDuck...You say you can swim in this?"
This would appear to be Bilbo already in Smaug's treasure room, which, if it happens in The Desolation of Smaug, would suggest that the dragon's tale will be wrapped up by the end of the second installment, leaving part 3 - There and Back Again - to deal with the Battle of the Five Armies and whatever other prequelly stuff is needed to establish the re-rise of Sauron. And of course, in true Peter Jackson/LOTR tradition, there have to be seven consecutive endings too.
Side note - have you noticed that nearly all the Hobbit toys in stores now feature stuff that hasn't happened yet in the movies? Mirkwood, Bolg, the barrels...kids who don't know the book might be confused this Christmas.
Feel free to speculate irresponsibly. It's what we do.
More links from around the web!
I'd bet the toys are a good sign of how the films were originally going to be broken up. There was probably a lot of under-the-breath cursing at LEGO the day it was announced the story was going to be a trilogy...
why is he wearing that blue velvet tassle covered jacket, it looks like hes just out of panto.
Well, we didn't expect them to take the entire next movie walking to the mountain they can already see did we?
Also, yes, some people are slamming the Hobbit Part 1 for being a rip off of LOTR... so...
Wait! So he gets there? FUCK! Now you've ruined the second movie for me!
@Ford_Thundercougarfalconbird I suppose now is not the time to tell you Sauron is Bilbo's father?
@kaijumaster335 I've only seen it for the last 30 seconds now... so, ya, there's that.
I really wanted a McDuck joke here and then I read where LYT got it first. So I got nothing thanks LYT.
@jamawalk Are you saying the Hobbit is the Goonies Prequel?? Because that would be amazing!
@Someguy @Canadian.Scott @jamawalk part of the Gundabad force if I remember correctly
Logically, finishing Smaug's story in the second movie would make a big second ending, like killing the troll king in the first. I do wonder if Bilbo ending in the treasure room would be the second ending where they would end in a cliffhanger then finishing Smaug and the Battle of Five Armies done in the third.
I say we raid Peter Jackman's house and force him to show us the last two! It's Christmas.
@Gallen_Dugall @Someguy @Nicnac Yes, I understand they have a great microwave in their break room.
