That can't be Piccard. Piccard is bald, even as a young man. Didn't anyone see Nemesis??
@figarojones Damn he is evil Picard. Alternate universe Spock had a beard, Evil Picard has hair.
And now we know the villain really is...nahh, they don't tell you in this trailer either.
Does anyone else think Cumberbatch is consciously mimicking Patrick Stewart's voice, though? A Kirk versus Picard storyline - even if it's an alternate-universe, extra-dimensional young Picard - seems like exactly the sort of thing J.J. Abrams and his crew would love to pull off. Until we know better, I'm going to enjoy thinking that's the real deal. In the meantime, the various ginormous shots of cityscapes and floating space stuff look like something I can't wait to melt my eyeballs upon in 3-D Imax.

Star Trek Into Darkness opens May 17th, 2013.

… and, it got taken down.
Good job, Paramount: DMCA your own promotional videos. I hate you and your stupid face so much.
@ExecutorElassus It's weird - the email I got said it was to be available for download (and hence, site-specific upload) today. Yet it isn't on the press site, and they took that one down. Maybe they got their days wrong and mean tomorrow. Meanwhile, I've added the Apple.com link.
@LYT Don't worry boss, i'm sure enough people will have watched this thing. Give it a go tomorrow.
@ExecutorElassus You know what this trailer needs?

@ExecutorElassus Well you wouldn't want to advertise your stuff, people might want to see your movie.
@TheConjurerOfCheapTricks @coreydk No, no, no, the voice over guy is Don LaFontaine!
@thehuntress1967 Actually I thought the last one more reminded me of Wolf 359. But it's an interesting theory.
@Kozmik_Pariah Evil Picard. Quotes Gilbert and Sullivan and drinks Ice Tea cold.
"...I can't wait to melt my eyeballs upon in 3-D Imax."
Bring sunglasses. in that trailer, I counted 19 separate cuts with lens flares.
@Ford_Thundercougarfalconbird But it's called Into Darkness, not Into More Lens Flares.
@Nicnac @Ford_Thundercougarfalconbird But the sheer amount of lens flares will completely burn out your vision. Hence, darkness. xP
@RandomChance @Nicnac @Ford_Thundercougarfalconbird Makes sense actually. There's no way anyone on the Enterprise can actually do anything with all the lights shining in their eyes.
I'm tellin' y'all.......It's Wesley Crusher, who was given incredible powers by The Traveler
@arivalscientist Wesley Crusher who was poorly written by lazy hack writers?
@Gallen_Dugall @arivalscientist At least those hacks got to write a Star Trek episode.........
@arivalscientist @PCabezuelo @Gallen_Dugall Yeah but the scripts were often less entertaining then John de Lancie's joy at being omnipotent
@PCabezuelo @Gallen_Dugall @arivalscientist I do believe there was a sign in the ST:TNG writer's room that said, "In Case Of Emergency......Write A Q Story"
@PCabezuelo @Gallen_Dugall @arivalscientist Sure we could mention the Planet of the African Stereotypes, either way my position that they were lazy hack writers stands. They had some good episodes the first few seasons too, and the latter seasons also had bad episodes, I think more than anything else it was the whole "X is my friend and want's to be a Y in the industry so I'll give them job Z for which they are clearly unqualified" cronyism prevalent throughout LA
@Gallen_Dugall @arivalscientist I don't buy that. I think that's just an excuse to cover up their bad writing. Seriously, the first two seasons of TNG had some bad writing across the board, and not just for Wesley.
@Gallen_Dugall @arivalscientist Well no one seems to know what to do with kid characters. They either have to be screwing up or saving the day. They really just needed to be kids.
@arivalscientist @Gallen_Dugall The fact that the shows writers openly admit that they sabotaged the character of Wesley because they didn't want to write "kids" always pisses me off - not very professional and therefore I call them lazy hack writers based on their own words.
@Canadian.Scott I knew there was a reason why Wil Wheaton smells like burnt dog hair!!!
Didn't Cumberbatch already reveal this weekend that it was an original character?
he spoke at length about it
@Gallen_Dugall Yeah i think that's why people think he is a hybrid of characters with a generic name.
@Canadian.Scott @Gallen_Dugall yeah but all the evidence points to it being an original character
@Someguy I remember that people didn't like Nero in the last one - which was to date the most psychologically accurate portrayal of a Romulan to date - someone whose emotional traumas never damped with the passing of time.
Anyway Cumberbatch said that his villain had reasonable goals, which always makes for a great villain.
Like when the officers tried to get the crew to eat hotdogs three meals a day for a month in order to save money after the captain wrecked the ships van
@Canadian.Scott Well I would forget that Nero was the villain in the last movie so hopefully this one will not get lost in ship's inner conflict like the last one did.
Well inevitably this character will be given a comparison to other Star Trek characters regardless if it is original or not.

Garry-Noonien Picard Mudd the Third of Nine Xanatos
Gargoyles was a TNG spinoff, right?

That will be a lot harder for Kirk to get out in an anguished scream.
