Ugh. Here is the thing. I hated Lost. I liked Prometheus. I find 99% of what people where bitching about Prometheus to be chalked up to people not paying as much attention as they CLAIM they do. Seems more like people bitching about Lost and in turn his particular style.
To sum up.
Butthurt people are butthurt.
While I found the film entertaining, I was disappointed in the movie before I knew who wrote the damn thing. Some people assume dislikers come in with a desire to hate a film due to extraneous reasons.
I never watched LOST.
I found interesting how much Prometheus borrows from previous Alien films, including Alien vs. Predator, the film that Prometheus was supposed to make us forget.
@Lithroe I enjoyed the first one because it took place in a cold, isolated location, there was a lot a bloodshed, interesting weapons the predators had at their disposal and it sort of was the first through the gate in bringing something that was only talked about in comics to life. AvP:R had the problem of trying to integrate "human" stories into it. I just want Aliens to fight Predators with humans caught in the middle.
@Canadian.Scott @ArchEron @vangald It's funny, I actually vastly prefer AVP:R over the first.
@Canadian.Scott @ArchEron @vangald Well, Prometheus is kind of a reimagining of the first AvP.
@vangald I loved the movie myself, but I still found some very large glaring problems. The majority of the complaints though? I found could be explained when a little bit of effort was put into viewing the movie.
@Lithroe I enjoyed the film a lot.
Then I watched the deleted/alternate scenes and listened to the commentary. They made some incredibly boneheaded decisions in editing and post. They had all the raw materials to make a great science fiction film in the vein of 2001, but they tried to cut it into a horror movie with an action movies pacing. This resulted in removing and over simplifying character motivation and development as well as obfuscating the mechanics of the alien biology and motivations. They claimed it was to keep the Engineers mysterious, but the scenes that where replaced and removed would have done nothing to undermine that. They tried to make the script into something it wasn't and as a result we got a good film instead of a potentially great one. All that being said I still really like the movie, but I look forward to the inevitable fan edits.
