Remember when you were a kid and the time between Halloween and Christmas seemed to be an eternity? This featurette that HBO just debuted about Game of Thrones' upcoming third season will make you feel the exact same way. It features an assortment of the show's stars, most notably a roughed-up Peter Dinklage, singing the show's praises. Not that you need any additional incentive to continue watching. Better still are tantalizing glimpses of new locations and characters that just further prove that GOT is the most epic show airing right now. (As well as the most violent, the most sexually charged, the one that features the most back-stabbing, etc). In other words, getting through the 118 days until March 31st rolls around is going to be rougher than Samwell is to the Wall's latrine.
So, in the wake of the death of FFF...anyone want to start a totally original Transformativefiction Thursday blog?
We'll need some totally original image macros...like the Melting Oberst Dietrich! Or the Lady-from-Chopping-Mall's-Head-Explodes! Or the ultra rare Captain Pike Looks Kind Of Bemusedly Satisfied!
I feel weird about about the Superman movie coming out, i don't know if i can handle another emo Superman who turns his back on the world only to return at the last minute.
@10glfan59 Well you see, I actually fell into that ladies room locker and got stuck inside for those 6 hours so I tried to call with my cell phone but mistakenly took 8MB of pictures on both SD cards and .......... Wait. Are you talking about me or him?
"Choosing to discontinue FFF was one of the toughest decisions I've made in my time as editor-in-chief at io9. I love to watch Rob's insane humor in action, and FFF really is hilarious. I am also a fan of erotic fanfic, which I've written myself (no I will not tell you what or where).
But this wasn't a contest between Rob's awesomeness and the awesomeness of fanfic. I came to my decision because I know how it feels to be shamed by institutions and people who can broadcast their thoughts a lot farther than I ever could. I want io9 to be a safe space for dark satire, but I also want it to be a safe space for the little guy to dream his or her harmless, weird dreams in peace."
@skrag2112 I'll give them credit for at least couching the excuse in terms of "shucks, folks, we jus' don't want to look like we're just picking on fanfic in general!" instead of "we're discontinuing it as gatekeepers of taste and public morality, and you should be ashamed of yourselves for complaining, you ungrateful malcontents." Like SOME companies and/or sites.
@skrag2112 I do like the shot at the end, "i also want it to be a safe space for the little guy to dream his or her harmless, weird dreams in peace." Perhaps you should not go on the internet then because nothing happens quietly there.
@skrag2112 I didn't think something like that would last there. From what I've seen too many stuck up people there who wouldn't have the courtesy to skip a post if it offended them. It was here forever and I never felt weird about not clicking on it. Different mindset of some people, I guess.
@skrag2112 Yep.. we got some whiny emails and tweets, so we caved, mainly because we didn't like the idea in the first place, but we really wanted Rob.
@Canadian.Scott@10glfan59 I didn't see it. I had zero appeal to me. I loved the Toby trilogy, and didn't see a need to watch this with its tiny knives.
@Ford_Thundercougarfalconbird@10glfan59@Canadian.Scott It was fairly crap. But (at least in my opinion) it wasn't as utterly, miserably crap as I was expecting it to be. It was definitely at least worth the price of the free rental from Blockbuster.
@jonap Yeah, it lasted two weeks. The comments were mostly complaining about porn on the site and so on, but I don't like the site enough to keep going there without FFF :(
but you notice how the ad for a new editor, that used to be in the current/leftmost position is now shifted over - i take that to mean the search is finished :D
@Lithroe@DrAbraxas@Big.Jim.Slade I think this is all setting up to an M. Night Shamalyan twist where Rob is actually Chris Cummins. To add to this conspiracy theory, M Night had a movie called The Village...Village Voice Media...it all fits now!!!!
@Lithroe @DrAbraxas @Big.Jim.Slade Also if the search is done there is no guarantee that Chris got the job. He may have been told to keep it up until the new editor (I'm thinking of a beautiful intelligent woman who finds me funny and intriguing, but then I'm always thinking about that) shows up and that's why there is no announcement or title page editor name change yet.
