All I knew about Banshee until now is that it was one of those annoyingly misnamed things that turns out to have a metaphorical title. Like when you go to see a movie called The Barbarian Invasions, and it's about a naked French-Canadian dude with cancer.
Something I know about it now is that if you can lip-read, you don't need Cinemax to enjoy the premiere tonight, because the entire thing has been officially posted...in animated gifs. So no sound, but the entire show, for those who like to spoil themselves with visuals and save the audio for later. Experience what it must be like for a deaf person to watch TV, or a street person to watch it through a store window.
It's a strange promotional tactic, but it got me to post about it, so hey, why not?
The Barbarian Invasions is actually a very good movie! Touching, and well done. It is, however, a sequel to "Le declin de l'empire americain". This, as you may guess, has nothing to do with the decline of any empire, American or otherwise!
@johnwlashline I agree. It is a good movie. But also a great example of a thoroughly misleading title.

As impressive, funny, & creative a stunt as this is, I know dread the future moment where someone inspired by this tries to create an entire film via tumblr posts.

Haha! This is hilarious! It reminds me of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie. Before it came out in theaters, the entire movie was "released" on Cartoon Network. It played in the bottom right corner of your screen and it was something like 2" x 2". No sound and so tiny you could barely see anything. I thought it was brilliant.

@Lithroe @rabidronnie Humor, definitely, yes. It's timely and definitely relevant.
And yet, at the same time, so very, very absurd.
I guess I'd reserve my final judgment for knowing who the "target" audience is for this show, whose premise I'm still a bit fuzzy on. It would have to be a relatively specific window of people for them to "get" this promotion. If they're going for that audience, then they nailed it. I'd just hope that the show itself met those sorts of expectations generated by this kind of promotion.

I don't even care who the show is for, every episode should be released like this. It's these ridiculous things I live for.

@10glfan59 If only the wholse pilot episode was available to watch online as a series of subtitled animated GIFs....In summary. "The Riches", only its a fake sherrif not a fake rich family.
