I probably should've watched the Inaugural speech just to see this...

It's hard to find many nerdy ways to honor it without coming across as disrespectful. But I may have found another.
Here's the TDDI tribute band performing arguably the most famous song abut Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., inside the virtual world of Second Life.

@arivalscientist you just gave me an idea.
"Hail to the Chief"(the song played when the USAlund president approaches a podium or enters a room) needs a modern replacement and this is the sort of momentous decision that can only be made correctly by nerds in a contest setting
my entry
Very nice rendition of the song.
As the daughter of a Sims addict, Second Life kind of terrifies me. Also--how does being a tribute band on a virtual world work? Do they get together to record their covers of songs and then post them online?
@rabidronnie It is a band that logs in to their fake characters and talk about starting a fake cover band and then start arranging music on fake instruments of which case they decide to do a cover of a song for a fake audience. Then they get off the fake stage and have fake sex with fake groupies avatars that look nothing like the people they represent in looks or gender.
Kafka eat your heart out.
@rabidronnie They only animate the songs, the song is the original recording. Not a cover.
@rabidronnie I think this is setting up a dark view of our future...although this is slightly better then a hologram of 2Pac
@Canadian.Scott @rabidronnie I think one of the most interesting uses of technology in the music performance world that I have seen was at an Owl City concert (Yes, I know, it's teenage girl music, I don't care. I love it. Shut up.)
He did a song that, on the album, is a collaboration with another artist--an artist that couldn't be there for the tour/concert. So they had a special screen onstage that displayed an image of him singing along with the band. It meshed quite nicely. It wasn't a hologram, but it was realistic enough that it didn't seem odd or out of place at all.
Side note--for all you gentlemen out there looking for a romantic date for you and your special someone. . . the live performance of her favorite band is good. Less good when she's 8 months pregnant and the concert will be utterly devoid of chairs.
@Canadian.Scott @rabidronnieAll I really know about Lenny Kravitz is that he is in a meme involving a ridiculously huge scarf and he was disappointing as my favorite character from Hunger Games (although that could have been the script--they wrote out the best parts with Cinna)
@Canadian.Scott @rabidronnie hooray for weirdness
sorry, just wanted to insert myself in the conversation
@rabidronnie @Canadian.Scott Wow...that is definitely awkward. Although i was at Lenny Kravitz concert once and my wife and I saw a girl getting felt up by her date. She was wearing a turtle neck and he decided to go through the neck. To this day it is still one of the weirdest things i've ever seen at a concert.
@Canadian.Scott @rabidronnie @Gallen_Dugall Just as long as mom doesn't get drunk enough that she decides it's a good idea to sexy dance awkwardly close to someone's husband. O.o that was an interesting experience.
@rabidronnie @Gallen_Dugall That will probably be me in a few years when my daughter decides she wants to go see the next big pop star. That can be mom, i'll take her to the hard rock stuff.
@Gallen_Dugall @rabidronnie Neither did I until I went to the concert O.O except for the (usually inebriated) chaperones, nearly everybody there was at least 5-7 years younger than me. They were all kind of clones of each other. It was quite bizarre.
I know the music isn't everybody's favorite, but then, music itself isn't everybody's favorite, and if there weren't so many preferences there wouldn't be so many genres, I guess.
@rabidronnie @Gallen_Dugall Ah. Didn't know that music was so demographic specific.
listened a bit - symetrical and melodic - it's okay
@rabidronnie @Gallen_Dugall Oh i am aware of Owl City...the music is okay. Unfortunately music is not my thing.
@Gallen_Dugall @rabidronnie Owl City is electro-pop written and performed by Adam Young. Lots of fun, almost constantly upbeat, often cheesy. You might have heard the song "Fireflies" which became mega popular a couple years back.
@Canadian.Scott @rabidronnie The Gorillaz creep me out o.o their song "All Alone" is the soundtrack of my nightmares.
@rabidronnie Owl City? Never heard of it, still it has to be better than Raccoon City.
I love U2 and I love this song...here is the original video as well.
