Really.. screw DC Comics and screw Matty. The very text of Watchmen is commentary about rampant corporatism and blind marketing just like this. The movie merch and marketing itself was disgusting enough. Yet due to reshuffling at the DC offices, the new madmen in charge of the asylum have decided there are no sacred cows. Every character must be milked for every cent and sold out until there is no more blood to be drained from their exhausted bodies.
The fact that Matty Collector, and already rather infamous scheme aimed at ensnaring the most obsessive compulsive collectors, has started a Black Freighter Club of Watchmen figures is disgusting. Though maybe even more so is that fanboys bought it hook line and sinker and it's sold out. Not sure how Before Watchmen is doing, but the fact it is exists is more proof that the idiots now running DC didn't understand the original acclaimed book.
Just as I feel with Before Watchmen, focusing on this one book detracts from the dozens and dozens of other characters at DC proper. Instead of wasting time on a Before Watchmen line, wouldn't that talent have been better put to use with the damned DC relaunch? If the redesigned 90s-tastic New 52 costumes weren't so terrible and we weren't already seeing figures of them, I'd complain that I'd rather see those figures.
I barely could find Mattel figures DC characters in prior lines of characters I liked. Now that they're wasting time playing the corporate game of Adrian Viedt and exploiting characters like Rorschach with oh so much Reaganomics, well.. I guess.. um.. I am more upset? Dammit. I kept seeing old super powers characters like El Dorado that no one gave a shit about, even Hispanic comic nerds, taking up shelf space. Mattel has failed creating DC Comics figures and this is just vomit icing on the shit cake.
