One of the few Mario variants that hasn't been tried - but after this, I think we can all agree it should be.

As impressive as this is, trust me when I say that games like Mirror's Edge make first-person platforming look much more fun than it actually is. And by that, I mean it be be incredibly damn frustrating at times, to say the least.
@SlyDante777 Sometimes frustrating can be fun in a game. Gives you that true achievement feel.
@SlyDante777 I disagree, I loved Mirror's Edge. Platforming in first person is pretty easy with some practice (and a depicted body). The only frustrations that I felt with Mirror's Edge was being forced into combat, how linear the levels were, and there were a couple of jumps later in the game that required ridiculously precise timing (while being shot at). The first person view was not only never a problem, it was the only reason Mirror's Edge was the first platformer I had played in over a decade.
It looks like this video was based off of the 11 minute Super Mario 3 video: http://www.imthinkingawesome.com/2013/02/super-mario-3-beat-in-11-minutes.html . The difficulty level would be so much higher looking at it this way though.
Looks pretty cool in general, but I'd probably never play it. Apparently after all these years of gaming, I finally found a first-person game that gives me motion sickness.
Looks pretty sweet. very well done.
but as for making it a reality. meh. they've already tried 3d mario. even though it was third person perspective and very dated now, i think it showed that the sometimes tricky jumps and stuff you generally find in mario games dont translate well. even watching this thing i kept thinking how frustrating trying to jump on those cannonballs would have be.
first person is an interesting presentation method - works pretty well in movie reviews too

and since I've drifted onto the topic of Sofie Liv you really should check out her review of the first season of Ultimate Spider Man

What's really creepy is that when I was in Denmark in the service she was eight...
I'll take the stand - I've got a stock answer for everything
@Gallen_Dugall Sigh, I'll wait by the mailbox for my court subpoena for your trial now.
Things like this just make me wish I had looked into developing games, because I'd make a 3DS game everyone wants, Mario wise: putting the plumber and random blocks into whatever you're aiming at, augmented reality style! Then you'd have to move your camera's view to create and uncreate pits, because no ground would mean you'd die, which we're not at yet anyway but it'd be hella cool.
This is amazing...what do you think mistress J-Law?

@Canadian.Scott What was the joke told that she is reacting to? Cause the faces on the people around her are HILARIOUS.
@Regular_Stormy @Canadian.Scott I'm guessing the reaction was prerecorded (part of a musical number) and the people in the back are just playing the "oh my god, what is seth macfarlane saying?" character.
@FabioRezende @Regular_Stormy @Canadian.Scott Yup - she's wearing a different dress from what she actually showed up in. I think the same extras show up in the other celebs' cameos during the bit.
@Regular_Stormy @Canadian.Scott Seth McFarlene sang a song about women in Hollywood showing their boobs. And he said, "we haven't seen Jennifer Lawrence's" and she is giving the thumbs up to say yeah I haven't.
@Regular_Stormy @Canadian.Scott Affleck should be given more Oscars, because he's always SO happy about it, and his rambling, feverish, stream-of-consciousness acceptance speeches are pure art. Admittedly, I'm working from a sample of 2, but we should test that.
@Canadian.Scott Its priceless. The only moment of the awards I saw was when the lady flipped past it at the laundromat. Ben Affleck was triumphantly ranting about Argo.
@Regular_Stormy @Canadian.Scott especially the, "Oh my God" in the top-left corner.
@Canadian.Scott This gif came out of the Oscars too quickly.

@Canadian.Scott "It's so awesome I wasn't picked on for showing my boobs in a rape film... and I enjoyed Mario, FPS style, as well!"
I want this! I want this to be real! I would never go anywhere! I'd play this for years! I would like a better end battle, but still, I want this!
They tried this already. It was called Jumping Flash.
That you can't remember it lets you know how much people enjoyed that vertigo-causing idea.
@step5555 I remember Jumping flash, and the vertigo was the best part, like how great the disorientation of Prey's gravity puzzles were, or the lack of horizon in space shooters. I'd like to pair something like that with the Occulus Rift. It would be a great way to test your fortitude and intellectual adaptability.
The real sin of this is the lack of a body. FPP (first person platforming) works infinitely better when you have a body depicted as you learn the controls. After a little practice it becomes instinctual, and platforming becomes second-nature. No body means your location and position are nebulous so you never really get a solid feel for the timing nor understanding of where your body is at any given moment.
