I'd like to see actual PS4 rendered graphics and games. I want to see it. The specs from a techy point of view looks good but I learned a long time ago putting great pieces together doesn't always equate to a great rig. I'm sure a lot of the 8G RAM will be used for background downloads and I imagine for the share button to work they would have to store some of your game in a RAM cache. Also with GDDR5 (GDDR4 is a heavy burden on processors) I worry the processor or processors (depending) will be too busy fluttering hair then to give gameplay.
Am I the only one completely unimpressed with the announcement of Diablo 3? I just don't care.
They will, however, have an activation code for EVERYTHING. no more used games if you want a complete experience.
@bbnoel07 I'm not happy with that either. While everyone makes, the game makers don't get to see any money from used games, argument they technically get the full price for the game the first time. They make their money off of me even if I sell it later (I never do though) This is just a way to force people to pay either full price or to double dip on the sale. I'm not a fan of this. Besides are they going to extend the warranty on these used games?
i think they were going to game stream, but decided against it. why, i can't remember.
One of my worries (as I rambled down below) is game streaming. I want to own my games not rent them from the cloud.
I didn't (from youtube) see anything too new though.
i wish some games like Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes , GTA5, and the last of us would have just been PS4 launch titles, instead of generation closers.
@bbnoel07 I think that is just how they hit. They advertise them for PS3. Not everyone will be able to buy a new console when it comes out so this will keep some of their base happy and if it is really PS3 compatible shouldn't be much trouble.
@SlyDante777 @bbnoel07 @Someguy Well if they were going to restart a tale this would be a good place to start.
@Canadian.Scott @LYT Canadian.Scott. Don't move! I got here late and I need someone to talk to!
NNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!! YOU LEFT!!!
@SlyDante777 @Someguy I guess they still have to save stuff for E3. I have to admit I was a tad fascinated with Watch Dogs when they first showed it but not much. But after seeing the new gameplay I have hopped on the excitement train for parts unknown and can't wait to see more.
@Someguy I thought Knack was the best surprise of the bunch, glad Sony led off with a colorful new kid-friendly IP that seems to actually made good use of the hardware instead of a gritty shooter or such. And as mentioned, more Watch Dogs gameplay essentially made me cream myself.
I thought the presentation was tad dull, though, largely with pretty much everyone repeating the same things about potential & innovation & praising the PS4 hardware (of course), just with different words.
The fact that "backwards compatibility" for the PS4 uses a cloud, & thus means downloading digital copies, & thus means it isn't really backwards compatibility, leaves a pretty sour taste in my mouth, though.
Overall, I guess it wasn't a bad showing in retrospect, but they could've done a tad more. I have more to say about the games, but I'll save that for any trailers Luke runs tomorrow. ^_^
@SlyDante777 @Someguy SLYDANTE!!! I LOVE YOU ..... In a manly sort of way. I guess. Eghh. Anyways. I read the comments, what do you think though?
For anybody who cares - yes, this bumped the usual Wednesday Fast Food Review. I have one ready, but it'll run tomorrow instead.
Okay I'm still catching up so please forgive me if I repeat someone else's points.
- No machine! This makes me weary. Demo games can be developed and run on system designed to do so, I want to see actual PS4 rendering. Without that this is just fantasy of our internet blind date by just their profile pic.
- I'm glad they are going with the X86 architecture. With GDDR5 SDRAM it sounds like they are seriously going for a graphics machine. 8GB of RAM, WOW! This does bring one worry and that is that they will turn to Cloud Gaming (I.E. no more nice Stand alone machines with your own disk but cloud gaming dependent on internet connection and downloading so they have control over your game) So much memory power and graphics bandwidth that maybe not in the beginning but pretty quickly our game disks will disappear.
- I love backwards compatibility, but this also worries me. If they are doing a straight backward compatibility with PS3 means the hardware and programming probably didn't change much. I know I heard complaints about asynchronous programming with the PS3 by developers. I hope Sony has updated the developers software to not make this a problem.
- Backwards compatibility with PS and PS2 screams you will be downloading the games from the cloud don't get rid of your old rigs yet for old games you own.
- Vita download has two thoughts for me. If you have Vita already you can do the Wii-U stuff. If not you will need to buy it after buying the PS4 to do the cool features.
- Also, if Vita can download play then the PS4 games may not be using as much power in games as graphics. Could lead to limited gameplay.
- Controller doesn't sound bad and looks great but extra or replacement controllers sound like they will be really expensive. (at least the Wii-U uses the basic controller backwards compatibility with only one new fancy controller)
- I hope it's just a coincidence that PS4 and PS$ use the same keys. This sounds like it is going to be expensive. I can't afford new games never-the-less hardware that cost more then my computer!
Oh @LYT I didn't get advanced warning in my e-mail either.
On their controller the headphone jack doesn't look like standard jack. Means buying more specialized hardware for simple stuff.
@LYT @bbnoel07 "Oh oh and heres the playstation 4! I don't care what they pay for it anyway, I don't care 'bout that." -the Sony execs who really only care about cocaine.
@script-01 You know what would have made this press conference actually worth waiting up for? Reggie Fils-Aime. That guy was the best.
the physics on the clothing and cloth materials could never be that accurate on current gen consoles...besides, there's always a graphical jump mid generation. anyone who's been gaming for a while knows that.
@bbnoel07 Clothing physics??? Well, now you're f***ing talking!! I mean, here I was thinking the key to a great game was innovation, creativity, & engaging, immersive gameplay, but f*** it, the clothing physics are clearly the big draw in all these games!! F*** YEAH CLOTHING
@SlyDante777 @bbnoel07 well, if you want to talk about creativity and innovation, the new Move support for 3d modeling is a huge step forward for tech in general. And how, based on what was showcased, could you make any conclusion about the prospects of creativity in future titles? and immersion has A LOT to do whith things like clothing physics.
@SlyDante777 And this is why I like Nintendo. Say what you will about them "re-releasing the same games for 25 years," but each Zelda game, each Mario game, and each Metroid game has done something that set them apart and made them feel new, no matter how rehashed certain elements of each have been.
@bbnoel07 @SlyDante777 Hey, I'm not saying graphics aren't important, & we did indeed see some impressive stuff. But gameplay/innovative concepts first, tech/graphics secondary.
Beyond the graphics updates and the social networking features nobody asked for, was there really anything there that couldn't be done on present-gen consoles? What a waste of time...
@Lady-Rainicorn I will admit that considering their one-million-objects-on-screen feature, there may be a chance that Knack was more essential. Though it does depend more on the gameplay, so we'll just wait & see...
the lighting engine used in some of the games shown are lightyears ahead of those currently used in terms of accurately rendering light, and if you paint or draw, you know light is everything
If only can they find a way to stop characters from melting into the environment. THAT would be a breakthrough
