You know, if I were thinking like a studio executive, I wouldn’t have gone with this. I would have put together a hammer lying on stone floor, blood pooling around its head, and the slogan “It’s Hammer Time.” Then it might occur to me that this is Spike Lee and he might find a way to call that racist, and I’d backtrack.

There’s an official synopsis now too:

OLDBOY is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

It’s twenty years now? It was ten in the manga and 15 in the Korean movie; his sentence just gets worse and worse! Assuming this takes more cues from the film, I’m a little disappointed, as there was a very key reason why 15, that – if you know the spoilers – gets watered down by being 20.

Interesting that being an advertising executive appears to be significant to the plot this time around. I wonder what that’s about?
