I know many of you who aren't the type to automatically be excited by an Alfonso Cuaron movie have reservations about this one, mainly because you suspect it'll be an Open Water-style, hour-and-a-half of stress followed by inevitable death.

I haven't seen it and don't know how it ends, but the new synopsis may offer hope to those expecting none:

Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski (Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalski completely alone--tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness.

The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth...and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left.

But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

So there is a goal - presumably to get to a satellite or something in higher orbit. Anyway, just as I'm a sucker for movies that play on my fear of heights, I'm all in on this one already. 3D, Imax, and a full-blast air conditioner to remind me I can breathe - done.

The YouTube trailer is 2K HD if you have the monitor for it. Click the jump for the standard size embed.
