Spin-off Is the New Sequel, as The Conjuring‘s Doll Gets Her Own Movie

It was probably a given, since the doll actually has a great “true story” behind it, as Badassdigest reported at the time. The one big difference? Yeah, no kid would ever own something that creepy and hideous – the real doll was an official Raggedy Ann. I’m guessing they couldn’t secure the rights to completely ruin the reputation of such a kid-friendly icon.
Anyway, Annabelle, as she’s known, is getting her own film, to be directed by Conjuring cinematographer John Leonetti. I actually know John – he’s one of the coolest guys in the world, and an excellent director of photography. As a director, though, I fear diligence means noting his actual credits at the helm: The Butterfly Effect 2 and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.
Maybe that’s why this is being called a spin-off – his track record with movies called sequels isn’t so hot.
