Star Wars Battlefront Reveals Possibly Spoileriffic Details About Jakku and The Force Awakens

The key news is that if you preorder the game now, you’ll be able to get access to the Battle of Jakku DLC a week early on Dec. 1st.

But once you make what you will of the lightsaber images above, there are some other details about the battle that, in combination with what we already know, cast a new light on what may happen in the next movie…

The Battle of Jakku is described as “the pivotal moment when the New Republic confronted key Imperial holdouts on a remote desert planet. Taking place in the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor, players will experience the events that created the massive, battle-scarred landscape of Jakku shown in Star Wars?: The Force Awakens?.”

Now, given that we know the sides in the new war are the First Order and the Resistance, it seems more and more like the “New Republic” lost this battle, rendering Return of the Jedi‘s galaxy-spanning (in the Special Edition) victory extremely short-lived.

That’s kind of a bummer, if a believable outcome when you depend on teddy bears with stone-age weapons, but it certainly explains why they wiped the Expanded Universe slate clean.
