The Secret of Han Solo's Dropped Cargo Revealed

Some of you might have seen this already, but it's making the rounds again and it's very much worth your time if you haven't seen it yet. It's a fan-made animation -- a shockingly well-done one, I might add -- which explains the story being Han Solo ditching the cargo that caused Jabba to put a bounty on him (note: it wasn't exactly his fault). Not only is it a swell story, well-told, but the character designs are actually a great hybrid between the CG Clone Wars cartoon and the Genndy Tartakovsky one, in my opinion. And the guy who does Han Solo's voice is fucking outstanding -- it's uncanny how much he sounds like young Harrison Ford. The only problem is that the short is in 3-D -- which I suppose it great if you have 3-D glasses, but is mildly annoying if you don't (I don't). Still, don't let that stop you from checking it out. Filmdrunk found the first pic from X-Men: First Class, which happens to be of January Jones as Emma Frost, cosplaying as what appears to be a Q-Tip. That is all.

What In God's Name Is Happening to the New G.I. Joe Cartoon

Hasbro just released a new screenshot from the new/upcoming G.I. Joe Renegades AND OH GOD WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR FACE WHAT'S WRONG WITH HER FACE WHAT'S WRONG WITH EVERYBODY'S FACES. I don't think there's a need to panic -- I saw a clip of Renegades at SDCC, and it looked nothing like this -- at the very least, I don't recall Scarlett being Asian -- but good lord, this looks rough. It's what I'd expect if someone made a cartoon for Wal-Mart rip-off The C.O.R.P.S. (Via ToyNewsI)

I'm putting this whole thing after the jump. It's one of those technically safe for work things that couldn't possibly be considered safe for work for anybody outside of the porn industry (of which TR has a few. Hi, guys!). Anyways, let the pic above serve as a disturbing warning of the STJT after the jump.

Finally, an M. Night Shyamalan Movie I'd Be Willing to See

By Rob Bricken in Movies, Nerdery

There's not really a twist at the end -- at least if you've you've seen a Shyamalan-directed movie in the last five years -- but that may actually be its biggest strength. Or maybe it's that this is really, really mean. One of the two for sure. Hee hee!

Add the Wii to the List of Things the Sonic Screwdriver Can Control

The BBC has announced an official Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver Wii-mote. This is noteworthy because 1) it's not some crappy plastic attachment, it's a full Wii-mote sculpted exactly like the Screwdriver, and 2) it's coming to America about two months after never. Yes, the UK will get the Screwdriver in December when that first new Who game comes out in October, and the US just gets Screwed. I know Americans are still way ahead when it comes to nerd merchandise -- hell, you poor foreign people can't even see all the videos I post on TR -- but I wouldn't begrudge any U.S. nerd's bitterness over this thing's international unavailability. Thanks to the jillion or so of you who sent in the tip.

Someone Has Rescued the Rescue Rangers

From Comics Alliance:
After launching a four-issue miniseries based on "Darkwing Duck," a superhero parody spun off from "DuckTales," Boom! Studios is returning to the Disney Afternoon once again with an ongoing "Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers" comic that launches this December. "Rescue Rangers" will be scripted by Ian Brill, the writer of the "Darkwing Duck" miniseries, and artist Leonel Castellani.
Thoughts:
• And thus, a new generation will learn to masturbate to a buxom mouse.
TaleSpin's gotta be next, right? I bet TaleSpin's next.
• I think we know a few Russian lunatics who are going to be pretty excited by this news.
Head over to Comics Alliance for an interview with Brill.

Portal 2 Puts the Operation in Cooperation

Sorry, but I just have to post this new, longer trailer for the co-op mode in Portal 2. Yeah, I know I've already posted a shorter version of it, and I know there's a new, 10-minute video of the actual co-op mode in action. I'm sorry, I just love these little guys. I will say that I did watch that gameplay video, and I'm surprised to report that both players have two portals -- blue and light blue, orange and red -- I just assumed one bot would handle blue, and one would handle orange. I'df also like to report that in no way should you ever play Portal 2 with a loved one -- despite the "hey dipshit please put a portal here target marker here" system, there's just no way two people are going to be able to play this without aggravating the hell out of each other. For friends it'll be fine, but relationships? They will end. And GlaDOS will laugh and laugh and laugh.

The Rise and Fall of Admiral Ackbar's Campaign to Be Ole Miss Mascot

By Rob Bricken in Movies, Nerdery

Remember the student (well, the nerdy student) campaign to get Admiral Ackbar voted the official mascot of Ole Miss? ESPN did the above mini... whatever about the phenomenon, and it's pretty phenomenal (cough). Things to note: Cheerleaders and adults being utterly unwilling to entertain the notion (remind me again about how the nerds have won?) and George Lucas' actual letter to Ole Miss, saying Ackbar was too "busy" to perform the duties needed of an college sports mascot. It's all pretty amazing, although one has to wonder -- since the campaign was shut down so efficiently and severely, one has to wonder if this was a trap of some kind.
Well. That solves that, then. Thanks to Nallygator for the tip.

10 Marvel Star Wars Comic Characters Who Deserve Their Own Action Figures

The recent release of the Celebration V Camie and Fixer two-pack marked the last of Hasbro's Star Wars comic figures. These offerings featured rare figures representing iconic moments from the saga's storied comic book history. The end of the line means that tons of characters will never get the opportunity to be immortalized in plastic. As you are doubtlessly aware, the Marvel comics were the first place that readers could experience new Star Wars stories off of the big screen. This is why it is especially sad that so many of the comics' characters got the shaft from Hasbro. As great as it is to have a Darth Vader figure with blue paint accents that reflect those of his comic doppelganger, it feels like an opportunity to make some fun new figures was missed. From a financial point of view it makes more sense for Hasbro to issue repaints than create new molds for niche characters from the various Marvel and Dark Horse books, but that doesn't mean we have to like it. So here's a list of folks from Marvel's sometimes silly, often sublime Star Wars comic that are more than worthy of their own action figures. For the most part, these entries are characters that have never been represented in toy form before. But there are some variations of fan favorites thrown in for good measure as well. As Chewbacca would say, "Gronk!"
