Iron Man Hurt Terrence Howard’s Feelings

Watchmen isn’t the only comic movie undergoing a kerfluffle this morning. Apparently, when we found out that Marvel was replacing Terrence Howard as Jim Rhodes in Iron Man 2 with Don Cheadle, Howard found out at the same time. While Marvel said the replacement was due to an argument about money, Howard denies ever even discussing the movie, let alone his fee. From his interview with NPR:

It was the surprise of a lifetime. There was no explanation. [The contract] just?up and vanished. I read something in the trades implicating that it was about money or something, but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren?t worth the paper that they?re printed on, sometimes.

Okay. On one side, we’ve heard Marvel has been trying to lowball the talent, and it’s entirely possible Marvel just didn’t want to pay Howard what he was contracted for. On the other hand, there could be some other reason Howard was replaced, like he was frequently peeing on the craft services table, or kept giving Robert Downey Jr. unwanted noogies, and Marvel decided to just say it was a money dispute. We don’t know. However, thanks to FilmDrunk, who have a collection of insane quotes from the same NPR interview, we know Howard is kind of crazy. Check it out.

In happier news, IESB says that Sam Jackson says that director Jon Favreau says that Nick Fury will have a much larger role in Iron Man 2. I’m 900% down with that.
