Really. Check out the tail end of this Attack of the Show interview, where Mustafa reveals he’s a “comics junkie” and is desperate to be cast as Luke Cage. I say we let him. Do you know anyone else more manly, or with a more powerful presence, than Isaiah Mustafa, better known as The Old Spice Commercial Guy? Hell, forget Luke Cage — I think Mustafa could pull off Power Man, complete with the yellow shirt and the tiara, and I know there’s not another man alive who can do that. And while we’re on the subject, why the hell are we only talking about a Luke Cage movie? Why not go straight for Power Man and Iron Fist? That’s the Marvel movie I want to see. Anyways, this whole post was basically so I can reprint what Jake R. emailed me when he sent me the tip: “LOOK AT SPIDER-MAN, NOW LOOK AT ME, NOW LOOK AT IRON MAN, NOW BACK
TO ME. LOOK AT THIS, IT’S THOSE BULLETS YOU SHOT AT ME.
THOSE BULLETS ARE NOW DIAMONDS.”
Robert Bricken is one of the original co-founders of the site formerly known as Topless Robot, and its first editor-in-chief, serving from 2008-12. He brought the site to prominence with “nerd news, humor and self-loathing” as its motto, raising it from total internet obscurity to a readership in the millions, with help from his savage “FAQ” movie reviews and Fan Fiction Fridays. Under his tenure Topless Robot was covered by Gawker, Wired, Defamer, New York magazine, ABC News, and others, and his articles have been praised by Roger Ebert, Avengers actor Clark Gregg, comedian and The Daily Show correspondent John Hodgman, the stars of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Rifftrax, and others. He is currently the managing editor of io9.com. Despite decades as both an amateur and professional nerd, he continues to be completely unprepared for either the zombie apocalypse or the robot uprising.
