New York Toy Fair: Speed Racer's Mach 6 Nude

Posted at 10:50 AM Feb 20, 2008

Although the Wachowski's Speed Racer movie does seem slavishly devoted to the original anime, obviously the one big change is that Speed Racer trades in his Mach 6 car at some point for the Mach 6. I actually don't approve of this, because the show is predicated on the pun between the English word "Go" and the Japanese word "Go," which means "Five," and I'm an elitist asshole. However, the Wachowskis seem to have forgotten to ask my opinion.

On the plus side, the Mach 6 does look reasonably cool; here's it in regular toy form...

And with its weapons out.

I can't help but thing if Spridle and Chim-chim were in the trunk during that transformation, they would be ground into a fine paste, which makes me happy. Also, Speed Racer had the coolest Hot Wheels track I've ever seen, which I promise I'll show later.

You have a typo in your blog:

You mean Mach 5 right? :)
And hey I totally agree with you. The second I heard that I had to go vomit. Not only is it Five as in the Japanese number "Go", but Speed's japanese name is also originally "Mifune GO".
Still, I'm going to watch the movie (when it hits theatres here in Australia) and hope for the best. I've been waiting over a year for this. As long as the Mach 6 continues to have Control A as the "jack release" and jump I'm happy. (The sound of the Mach 5 jumping makes me orgasm LOL)
