The Insane Epilogue of Dollhouse

Before I get into the actual news here, let me tell you my thoughts on Dollhouse: I hated Dollhouse when it first came on. Thought it was mediocre at best, and genuinely horrible at worst. Then, somewhere around the middle of the 13-episode season, I think Joss Whedon did what Joss Whedon does best, and presented some great twists, built off the characters he’d established, and used the show’s odd and overthought premise to make some riveting TV. Frankly, I think the second half was actually better for the first half sucking so hard — it made the good stuff seem that much greater by comparison.

Now for the news (and people who don’t want spoilers, quit now): you may know that one more episode of Dollhouse was shot — titled “Epitaph One” — which will be aired at SDCC. This is a short clip of it. You also might know that this episode takes place in 2019, after the fucking apocalypse. This blows my mind. Dollhouse is not an apocalyptic show, say, like Jericho, so the decision to set this episode after the goddamn world ends is surprising to say the least. All I know is that the apocalypse somehow ties into the people running the Dollhouses’ endgame, but whether this is what they wanted or whether they fucked up, there’s no telling. Hell, I don’t even know if when the second season of Dollhouse airs on Fox that the show will continue where it left off, or if post-apocalypse is now the new timeframe!

Whether you love or hate the show, you have to admit Dollhouse is taking some huge, mighty interesting chances, which I’m 100% down with. Of course, these will inevitably lead to the show’s cancelation mid-second season, since it’s Fox, but still. (Via Scifi Wire)
