Other than getting on a plane that caught on fire, I had a pretty good three-day weekend. The best part? Not dying in a fire on a plane. Close second? This D&D ad, parodying those awesome Canadian Club whiskey ads, made by my buddy Chris Ward (click the link to see an original). If you've been reading the Star Wars haiku contest, you know Ward has been on fire with comedy this weekend; I think I'm going to have to give him a separate tribute page whenever I do the winners' article. But goddamn, nothing tops this thing. "Rolled to feel up his elf girlfriend?" FUCK AND YES. (Via World of WardCrap)

My dad was a hardcore jock and a hopeless drunk.
I could only WISH my dad was a level 22 necromancer. That way, he'd only reek of death and despair, not stale beer and disappointment.

Even that would be better. At least that's relatable.....

Levvel 22 Necromancer? That musta been with, like, house rules, or maybe some crazy Judges Guild supp that even I haven't heard about. Ergo, that makes it DOUBLE-PLUS RAD.

Props for the photo of the D&D cartoon costumes, too, though it's disturbing that the ones dressed as Hank and Bobby look more feminine than the ones dressed as Sheila and Diana. Ah, the 80s...

I correct myself. The BECMI sets let you get to 36th level, and there might've been some kind of Necromancer thingie for M-Us innere somewhere.
I'll look it up when I get home.

My dad was actually a dwarf fighter according to the character sheet tucked in-between his PHB when he gave me all of his 1st Ed AD&D stuff. I still like the nice, sharp edges his dice have, nothing like the rounded ones you get today. Just be careful if you drop a d4 on the floor.

@ darkmagician66699 - Wow. A necrophiia joke, then feces, then you respond to someone who was honestly affected by your use of the word 'queer' by calling them...queer. It's one thing to be an asshole and another thing entirely to revel in being an asshole.
Anyway, back to the subject at hand - I do not remember the Viking being that cute.

My dad's almost 80, and he wouldn't have been caught dead playing D&D.
How young are you guys that your dads were young enough to play Dungeons & Dragons? D&D is only 35 years old!

Gygax and Arneson were 35 and 26 respectively when the first edition of D&D came out. I think that's old enough for somebody to have children who, today, would just start playing D&D.
Hell, that's old enough for their children's children to be playing D&D now.

Almost 80? Yeah... because he lived it. Ask him some time what it was like growing up in the dark ages.

Oh well, I suppose that at least I can keep HOPING for your imminent downfall to transpire. Maybe I'll get lucky one of these days.

Actually, not only did BOTH my parents play DnD when they were my age, they played as a couple. Now I have played a game or two myself but I have to admit I drew the line at dating someone I was playing with, in fact after I was asked out by the guy who hosted my games I never went back.
