Geektrooper turned me on to this awesome Rick Hunter Robotech: The Macross Saga motorcycle helmet! Made in Japan -- which is funny, because they didn't even have Robotech over there! -- this awesome Robotech helmet is $460, which is expensive, but not utterly inappropriate for an awesome replica of the beloved American and not Japanese cartoon. Looks like there's going to be a Roy Fokker helmet, too, when they get released next February -- you can pre-order them here. My only question is what is all that Japanese gibberish on the pre-order page? That's Rick Hunter's helmet, baby! He's the man! In his Veritech being awesome in Robotech! Ha hahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHARobotech is so much better than Macross.

You know as soon as the Macross lovers get out of bed this morning and read this they will all go mad with rage.
I don't know why you do this to yourself.
Personally I have love for both Macross and Robotech. Well maybe a little more Robotech than Macross.
And that is a very cool helmet. I'm sure I would wear it if I were a pilot, or when I went bike riding.

460 bucks for a helmet that's probably not DOT approved or have some sort of european certs...though, might be totally worth it.

Is it Snell approved?

I'd love to have a Genesis Climber Mospeada/Robotech New Generation Cyclone working replica motorcycle, helmet, and ride armor to really get my geek on.

I really wish they would have partnered with a company like Arai or someone reputable cause ive seen the base models of these helmets and they are garbage plain and simple.
They are no better then the junk HJC puts out and if youre not in the know HJC is the crappiest of the crappy.
I love the graphics but i would not spend $460 on this trash. Not to mention its a fucking ugly ass helmet to begin with.

Rob, you're setting us up the the bomb here. Once the Macross lovers start you have no chance make your time. But hey, I like RT better too so you have my full support. Seriously guys, "Genesis Climber Mospeada"? Don't defend that.
@THE PR0F3550R If there was such a helmet and armor, I would buy a bike just so I could wear it. Hell, I'd buy the armor before the bike. Of course you know I'd rather have the Cyclone too...

I hate to burst the bubble on this, but all that is, is a motorcycle helmet painted up in a Macross style and doesn't even come close to the helmet design in the show. Its certainly not worth the 460 clams they want for it.

Well, if you want an actual replica helmet, there are options.

Honest to God I forget where I picked up that picture. I think it was a prototype they made in Japan for a thing.

Hey Scott,
What kind of helmet is it? Where is the info to the non-macross painted version?
I like the idea and have no problem paying $460 for a good helmet (my head is worth at least twice that), but would want to know if it's a quality lid.
Plus, I've got enough helmets already.

It's actually a Macross: Do you remember love helmet design but I guess being a "professional anime nerd for seven years" you can tell the difference.

I'll entertain notions of Robotech > Macross
I'll even play along with New Generation > Mospeada
However, does anyone actually believe that Masters > Southern Cross?

Oh, and if you're going to buy a Robotech Veritech pilot's helmet, you'll also need a Veritech pilot's flight jacket.
http://www.mech9.com/blog/2009/04/macross-flight-jacket/
It even has a sleeve to hold your I-Pod so that you can listen to your favorite Minmei tunes as you zip through traffic.
Now they need to get that damn Cyclone cycle and armor in production.

@Hachiko You make a good point. But in return I ask: does anybody think anything of either of those? The only reason for me to watch it is as part of Robotech. As a standalone series? No thanks. That being said, I'm looking forward to when Dana reappears in the movies...

Shit YEAH I'd believe it. I JUST watched the Masters for the first time, and it was pretty fucking despicable, and while I've not seen Southern Cross, the elements that I enjoyed the most in the story were the ones I could tell had been added for the Robotech version.

It'll probably stick out like a sore thumb, but I would still love to have that helmet when I finally get my Harley! At the very least, I'll be standing out from the rest of the guys who'd be wearing the Nazi helmets and other stuff like that. :)

But yeah, now that I think of it, I also agree with the others who say that a Mospeada/New Generation Cyclone helmet would be even cooler.

I really considered having a helmet painted similar to that when I got my first motorcycle. Instead I rode around with this for a year (http://www.padwick.net/image/newhelmet.jpg) before deciding I didn't like having a modular helmet and trading up to a full-face.
