There was a video of the proposal on YouTube, which has since been taken down; I'm guessing that most folks were not congratulating her or her groom-to-be, unfortunately. I want to offer my congratulations to the happy, nerdy couple, on finding each other in this crazy world. I'm offer not going to preach about not making fun of nerds -- since it's pretty much what I get paid for -- but I don't want to ever savage someone for what should be a purely happy act, like getting engaged or married or having a baby or such. So please, only happy thoughts in the comments for PikaBelleChu and her PikaBeau. (Via Geekologie)

Aw, that's so sweet. I wish the video was still up, I would have loved to see it. Geeky proposals are the sweetest things ever. I hope they have a great married life.

I hope they go all out for the wedding. I want to see Ash walking her down the aisle, Brock can be the best man, one of the many flower themed pokemon can be the flower girl, and for some theatrics maybe Team Rocket could swoop in and steal the ring before being defeated by the pikachu ring bearer.

However, she turned him down on the basis that nobody likes Raichu.
I hope she knows hell cheat on her, not because he wants more, but purely so he can say "well you know, I had to catch em all"

Someone should run in during their wedding dressed as Team Rocket with some friends and pick her up and run out of there.

Props to anyone who can find themselves a person to be with. Extra props to any of the ubernerds out there since it's not like we're that plentiful.

I wanted to go to AWA. I really did. But one day was on my brother's birthday and I'm a couple states away, so I couldn't, so I missed, among other things, this.
That kind of sucks.

It's hard not to expect non geeks to not make fun of them since they are grown people dressed as children's anime characters.. I got flack in HIGH SCHOOL for liking/playing Pokemon in public so, I'm not sure what exactly she expected. When I got my first girlfriend she broke up with me because other girls started calling her "Ms. Pikachu" which she hated which led me to take my Pokemon gaming private, only sharing with my best friend.
Kudos for both of them for being able to be loud and proud, and i wish you many pichu's in your future ! :-) Always awesome to see to people/nerds come together...

It's pretty bad when a person's choice of video game gets treated as if it were some pervese sexual fetish...
As for the (hopefully) happy couple to be, more power to them, even I do think they both look absolutely retarded in their (specific) pokemon themed get ups.
And it's not interracial, pikachu evolves into raichu. If anything Pikachu's digging for gold. I'm just glad she's not wearing pichu stuff.
hmm... the ring in a pokeball thing makes me wonder what's appropriate way to present a ring in my geeky proposals of choice... Joker and Hellboy.
Hmm... body parts spring immediately to mind in both cases...

Really, most "mainstream" marriage traditions are at this point so obsolete and rooted in no longer functioning modes of social organization as to border on LARPing and cosplay.
So more power to people who do it in a way that means something to them.

Why wouldn't people mock them? Anyone that obsessed with anything needs help.
It just makes it worse that its Pokemon. That she's 33. That it's at anime convention.
I liked Pokemon when I was a kid. It cares me that she got into it when she was 20.

Agreed. Sad. The only positive thing that could be taken for this is there's hope out there for that TMNT woman.

Asat replied to Matt:
Actually, she seems more eccentric than obsessive, and eccentricity has a low correlation with serious mental illness. So she is statistically LESS likely to "need help" than an ordinary person.
And I don't suppose either of them would mind being referred to in contradistinction from "ordinary".

Are you & kenshiro the only ones who missed Rob's request or are you just so miserable you feel the need to criticize and demean those who have found a way to be less miserable?
Sometimes, it is appropriate to keep the snark to yourself.

kenshiro replied to SpookyElectric:
Spooky, The only reason I commented was Rob's request. Do you visit this site often? Nerds would have not nice things to say about unicorns crapping diamond studded gold onto the ground in front of them. And I think you blaspheme. Snark is ALWAYS appropriate.

SpookyElectric replied to kenshiro:
Yes, quite often. Daily.
Nearly everyone has managed to keep the snide comments to themselves.
Nobody's asking you to hold hands around a bonfire and sing kumbayah. You have your entire life to bitch about unicorns shitting jewelry on your front lawn.
You have any number of other ways of getting your snark on regarding the poke-wedding. Is it so hard to refrain, on one occasion, from pissing in the punch?

My thoughts exactly... I was at AWA this year and this is STILL the first I'm hearing about this...
Anyway, ring in the pokéball? Made of win. I'm in my 20's and I'm still eagerly awaiting the new remakes of Pokémon Gold and Silver (as is my S.O.) You can never be too old. =)
