• He had just interviewed for the role of General Hawk in a new, 26-episode G.I. Joe cartoon
• He had just interviewed for the role of Ratchet in a new Transformers cartoon
Everybody freak out. Now settle down, because I don't think anyone knows what's going on for either of them. I'm assuming if Bell specifically mentioned a 26-episode Joe cartoon, he knows what he's talking about. But whether that cartoon is more Resolute (ohpleaseohpleaseohplease) or some kind of afternoon-friendly Rise of Cobra tie-in remains to be seen.
As for Transformers, I can't help but wonder if Bell was actually trying out for the War for Cybertron game mentioned earlier and just got mixed-up. Obviously, that's by no means a given, especially since Hasbro trots out a new TF cartoon every 2-3 years, and now that Animated is seemingly over, we're due. It's just a thought.
I guess we'll see. And I'll obviously report anything else I hear about these shows ASAP -- you hardcore TF and Joe fans feel free to drop me a line with anything else you know. (Via The Terror Drome and Comic Book Movie)

wow. i think hasbro realized that TF is their lonegest running most successful action figure line, and they're in the action figure business. and business is good, damned good. you must've grown up in the 90s. sad that you think the pinnacle of the TF universe is series that is weakest link in the transformers mythos. beast wars sucked. hard. but i bet you thought power rangers were the shit too.
-
Haven´t Hasbro realized that the only ones who give a fuck about TF are now the nerds who grew up in the 80s? Seriously, TF is only alive because of beast wars, any other new sh*t has failed. Children aren´t interested in another new different character called Optimus Prime and a Megatron of his same size, that´s old news

Sari was awesome because she was a (SPOILER)
-
You think ultimately Marvel programming would be put on Hasbro's channel.. or the many Disney owned channels?
-
Giant alien metal robots with nuclear fusion cannons vs. squishy humans? I think we all know how this one would end.
-
It's not that hard to riff Warren Ellis. Find a copy of New Scientist, pull your plot from there. Add gruff middle-aged man complaining about being a middle-aged man, goth girl and bizarre profanity. Ellis brought the HAARP angle. Everything else was just researching Larry Hama.
-
Resolute: The Series would be so incredibly bad-ass that there's no way it will happen.
-
Trukk not munky? LOL Garry Chalk's a nice guy,I met him a Botcon 01 I missed meeting the voice of Parkay and Groppler Zorn. =[

Whatever. The only good GI Joe cartoon is the new Resolute one. The 80s version is goofy as fuck. The DIC(k) version is even goofier. GI Extreme had an interesting premise, but that was an unfinished messed. The two CGI movies were okay, the first one wasn't too bad as it was closer to the comic in a childish way the second one sucked. GI Joe: Sigma 6 looked cool in that it had the anime thing going on, but the show itself had that anime storytelling which kind of sucks. So yeah, with GI Joe cartoons they pretty much all suck. I preferred the comics to those animation monstrosities. Transformers cartoon, meh. G1 is the shit even if there are some goofy episodes. G2 was G1 with the stupid CGI cube shit and CGI Optimus Prime. Beast Wars (especially seasons 2 & 3) was pretty awesome and actually had a more complete storyline than G1. Beast Machines was a shit mess ruining Beast Wars. Transformers: Robots in Disguise (RID) was okay because the show went back to the G1 type of robots. The Unicron Trilogy: Armada, Energon, and Cybertron was terrible Japanese anime storytelling Digimon-like garbage. Transformers Animated is somewhat cool and definitely is cool for a new generation of kids being a tribute/new mythos type of G1/Beastwars combo show. So when a new Transformers show is announced I will tune in to check it out, but I doubt I'll following it since the last show TF show I liked was Beast Wars.

Anythings better than Slaggin' Bayformers. I'd rather watch a cat, drop a deuce than watch Bayformers.
-
Man, nice to see so many people that are pretty favorable of a G1 style Transformers or a Resolute style GI Joe series. I'd just have to agree that both would be really sweet if they got a chance to shine.
-
Oh yes, a proper remake of G1--I hope so much for this. Armada etc. had brat kids that annoyed the slag out of me, and Animated had designs that were just...wrong. As to Beast Wars, I reject that whole concept.
-
I felt much the same way about Transformers: Animated at first. I hated the animation style and wasn't thrilled with the way they portrayed Optimus. But my son was into it and I kept watching. I came to realize that they had set him up that way so they could have him grow into his role as leader, and give him a detailed backstory and show some character development. By the end of the series he was a bit closer to the Optimus of the G1 days. Somehow the art direction grew on me too, and I found myself eagerly watching for updates of classic characters (Warpath, Ironhide, Cliffjumper, Perceptor, etc.) and I really liked most of them. When they do a new series I hope they keep the same story editor, and commit to using a fresh, distinct design for the animation rather than rehashing old styles.
-
I will die of nerdgasm if they redo G1 with better storytelling and art, AND do a G.I. Joe Resolute-like series. My heart wouldn't be able to handle the excitement.
-
Oh my, that would be awesome. I loved Visionaries!
-
i for one hope the gi joe cartoon happens and it is done like resolute was though they would have to explain how cobra commander is still alive as for the transformer's cartoon thought hasbro or someone stated it was the last transformers cartoon ever though maybe they have hopefully changed their mind let the waiting begin.

I don't quite understand all the love for Transformers:Animated. I've been a diehard Transformers fan my entire life and watched the entire series of Animated, I wasn't impressed. I suppose I just could not get over the Teen Titans-esque animation style, or the way they re-imagined Optimus Prime. I like my Optimus when he's a robot version of John Wayne just like in the original series. I'm not saying that Transformers Animated was bad, I just don't really get it.
-
This would be fantastic. I love GI joe.
-
Any new Transformers cartoon is gonna have a hard time living up to the standard set by Animated. Or you know, they could just bring animated back. A guy can dream.
-
Hey what about Visionaries? They should bring back them too while they are at it.
-
Inhumanoids should be redone too. DE-COMPOOOOOOOSE!
-
Indeed, it would be pretty awesome to see RTS battles of nameless Cobras & Joes, complete with corresponding lasers, in different environments.
-
That's actually kinda what I was going for, I just didn't say it very well.
-
It seems that Michael Bell REALLY wants back into Transformers. When he didn't get cast in the movie he made a (tongue in cheek) video telling everybody not to go see the movie because he wasn't in it. He's also directed a TF motion comic that he tried to make official.
-
You know what, as much as I thought the movie Joe universe was mediocre, it was still miles ahead of Sigma Six [which felt more like an animated version of those Snake Eyes and the Ninja Force comics towards the end of the run].
-
Personally, I would like to see something along the lines of a Classic Transformers series. We've had twenty five years of G1 stories so mythology and character-wise we can now look at the past and see what worked and what didn't. Everytime someone tries retelling G1 stories like Dreamwave or IDW, they start rewriting everything from scratch and just make a whole bunch of new mistakes. There's no need at this point to reinvent the wheel. I would like something along the lines of Batman TAS for the G1 transformers, in which the best parts of all the past versions were presented and the Transformers were homaged in the way we always saw them as kids.
-
You all are aware that Hasbro is planning to restructure Discovery Kids into their own image and creating possibly the greatest kids channel on the planet, right? You're also aware that they're also resurrecting many former Hasbro-owned brands into new series, including Romper Room, Jem, Micronauts, and My Little Pony in addition to G.I. Joe and Transformers, right? Now, freak out.
-
That's part of the problem with the shows originating in Japan - they assume that you have to have a child protagonist. They also apparently butchered Beast Wars in dubbing specifically because it didn't have a child character, trying to lighten it up. As the kid sidekicks go, Sari was pretty good. Then again, that's probably because the series was driven by domestic production staff rather than overseas.
-
Alternately, a GI Joe RTS, since both sides were effectively matched in terms of units. Maulers vs HISS, Skystriker vs Rattler, etc... and save the Iron Grenadiers and Cobra-La - who'd just be the Zerg - for expansion packs.
-
It's the kids that really kill it for me. I was okay with Spike, he was young, but not exactly a "kid". I could even get behind Daniel to some extent because he at least tried (and even sometimes succeeded) in being useful. Beast Wars/Machines were some damn fine storytelling, just stuck in silly animal modes, but every one of the damn kids they've introduced in the last several versions has made me want to hurt things.
-
Don't forget that the trick to Resolute is that it was entirely written by the one and only Warren Ellis...who has not yet mentioned writing any more in any of his various writings around the internet. (that I've seen anyway)
-
And I would LOVE to see an actual remake of G1 (same setting and characters), done with a little more sense, more mature storytelling and awesome art. It's the one thing I've always wanted and have never got. Animated came close, but fell a bit short.
-
TF & GI Joe projects that would rule the school: -TF video game & series that have the maturity, casts, & scope of the Dreamwave & IDW comic books, especially those set on Cybertron. -GI Joe video game that operates like Halo 3 or COD: pick your class (Firefly, Bazooka, Cobra Eel, Snow Job), & switch classes when you pick up a weapon (Roadblock) or enter a vehicle (Wild Bill). All the requisite game modes, & it would just destroy. Top serious!
-
If these cartoons are based on the movies, I give up. There's just no escape from the crapiness. It'll be especially frustrating after watching the awesome Resolute and after Transformer: Animated was canceled early despite having the best Transformers story in years.
-
Oh, and while we're at it, wouldn't it be awesome if Hasbro were to okay a GI Joe vs Transformers animated movie? Would that not be one of the ultimates in badassery?
-
You know what I'd like to see happen? I'd like to see a new take on the G1 series. The original cartoon first aired TWENTY-FIVE years ago now, and both storytelling and animation conventions have come a long way since then. Why couldn't Hasbro make use of these new ways of working, and update/reboot the very things that got the ball rolling in the first place? Bring back the big red badass of a semi that is Optimus Prime. Let Peter Cullen voice him. Bring back a Frank Welker voiced Megatron, even if they have to make him something other than a gun...though the gun they did in the Classics line a couple years ago should work fine; matter of fact, most of those updates and tweaks would work well as starting points for the animation. Then tell GOOD stories using the original concepts and characters. Why would this NOT work?
