So the BBC is remaking the sci-fi horror classic Day of the Triffids as a mini-series, which somehow I was not aware of before this clip was released. It looks like a TV mini-series for sure, but check out this cast: Dougray Scott, Joely Richardson, Brian Cox, Vanessa Redgrave, Eddie Izzard, Jason Priestley, and the guy who played Spud in Trainspotting. Okay, admittedly, that sounds like half an awesome BBC production, and half a regular TV mini-series, but Gamma Squad has a few other clips that you might enjoy. As for me, I absolutely have to see this thing, for one reason and one reason alone:

The original movie's meteor effects were way more fun, but the idea that an aurora turns into a solar flare that blinds everyone makes SO much sense- it's incredible that a modern filmmaker actually ADDED science to a story and improved it!

My memory is shot these days but I'd swear the BBC already did a miniseries on DofT. I seem to recall it focus more on the human survivors (gangs of sighted bikers preying on the blind) with the Triffids almost an afterthought.

seeing Eddie packing heat is proably the only reason to give the remake a try that and for once some studioe did not do a remake of cheesy classic. but mostly the though of seeing Eddie gunning down stuff or trifids is worth checking out the remake.

That's gotta be one of my favorite cheesy early sci-fi movies, right up there with War of the Worlds and Forbidden Planet. I'm pumped.
