• It was just far too intense a voice for any conversation scenes - like the ones with Gordon. He should have adopted a variety of "mask" voices for those parts: Cockney Batman, Kermit Batman, Southern Batman, Borderline-racist-Chinaman-voice Batman, etc...

• I think 'The Dark Knight' came out at the perfect time for me not to hate Bale's Batman voice, just after I finished playing MGS 4. Finishing the game the day of the release, going to the theater and hearing Batman give the same line I had just heard an aged Solid Snake give about not being a hero just made my summer '08. Although without that it would just be rubbish.

• I agree with Allison. It makes sense to me. Voices are a very identifiable trait. Conroys bat vs bruce isn't gonna fool anyone in the real world. Plus, terminator notwithstanding, bale can do no wrong iny book. Hell, I want him to play superman. He'd make a great Clark. Then he can pull off the extremely rare feat of playing four roles in the same film in the superman/batman movie. Someone suggested it at the beginning of the comments; I wonder what the legality of paying conroy to record just batmans lines. Like, could he get in trouble? Because if not and if he'd agree to do that would be a pretty neat thing to see I must say.

• I dig Maurice LaMarche, but for me the definitive Mr. Freeze voice will always be Michael Ansara. He gave Freeze an incredible pathos that was also horribly menacing. . You felt sorry for the bastard, but in no way, shape, or form would you ever want to encounter him.

• This, pretty much. Of course, every time you hear someone describe Bruce's Batman's voice, it's always that it sounds like he's gargling rocks. If anything, Conroy didn't go far enough with it.

• Conroy is absolutely right, although I'd put the blame between Bale and the crew or whatever at about 50/50. Bale has a set of ears and eyes, he should have noticed it too. I didn't mind it in Batman Begins because I think it only really surfaced briefly in 2-3 scenes and I was pretty certain someone was going to break the news about the voice before The Dark Knight or Bale would realize how bad it was, one or the other. Man was I surprised when I watched the sequel. It's WORSE!!! Sucks because it's really the only thing I have a big problem with in that movie.

• Man...I wish Conroy would do more cons. He is the ONLY celebrity I would like to meet and get an autograph from. I got some excellent Mask of the Phantasm lobby cards off of ebay YEARS ago and its always been a nerd dream of mine to get him to autograph the Batman one(I'd love to get Hammil to autograph the Joker one,but I hear hes charging $100 bucks to sign so that aint gonna happen). I dont even collect autographs,and I still want Conroys. He is the gold standard by which all who wear the cowl will be judged from now till the end of time!

• Maybe Bale should not have used his real voice for Bruce Wayne. He should have taken a page from Conroy's Wayne, which was higher pitched, playful and carefree, which would have left him more room to use his real voice, or a little deeper non-scratchy version of his real voice, for Batman.

• I don't know what's up with his voice. In Batman Begins he sounded like he had the flu. In the Dark Knight he sounded like an angry person with the flu. I'm not sure what's going on there but it can't be that hard to put some bass in your voice.

• Actually that has me thinking. When they signed Christian Bale, did anyone actually bother to audition him to see how he would play as Batman? I know he's a big name and all, but this is the sort of reason why even big actors should test for a part.

• As I told Rob, I met Kevin Conroy when I attended C2E2 on Saturday. He was by far the most friendliest celebrity I met that day. We talked a little Batman and Captain Sunshine. He says he hasn't heard if they are going to bring back Captain Sunshine, but it was a whole lot of fun doing that role. Good man. Other celebs I met included: Carrie Fisher Jerry "The King" Lawler Peter Mayhew (Chewie) Geoff Johns and Joe Quesada. Oh and sidebar, excellent choice of Maurice LaMarche as Freeze. I can think of no better voice to use but Brain/Orson Wells to plug into Freeze.

• I never understood Bale's Cookie Monster Batman voice. What was the purpose? I know that he might want to disguise his actual voice but come on. It was just ridiculous in the second movie and incredibly distracting in some scenes. Especially the interrogation scene.
