The new season of the long-running Super Sentai series in Japan -- better known as Power Rangers in the U.S. -- will be pirate-themed. From the blog OrendsRange:
Asides that they utilize the same colors of the first team, Goranger, you should take note that some elements of their original costume are seen in this one. Our heroes will use the henshin device called, Mobairets a combination of the words, mobile and pirates. They also use items called RangerKeys, keys with the likeness of previous Sentai heroes which they can use to transform into those heroes to fight the enemies. This is so amazing I can barely fucking stand it. Infinite thanks to BumblebeeZ3 for the tip.
Their weapons are: GoukaiKen, a sword and GoukaiGun, a gun which they can use to fight their enemies! This season's Red Ranger, GoukaiRed will pilot a pirate ship mecha called, GoukaiGalleon which they can use to form their gattai robo, GoukaiOh.

Anyone wonder if they get parrots? Here's hoping the sixth Ranger gets an eye patch. Ranger Keys: The Super Sentai equivalent of Kamen Rider Decade's Decadedriver belt and Ben 10's Omnitrix/Ultimatrix.
-
You utter bastard. Now that's going to be stuck in my head. :P
-
Go go Power Rangarrrrrrrrrrrrrs!
-
Hell and yes. :D
-
this is not Power Rangers it's Super Sentai there's a big difference there
-
I dunno, pirates never caught on big in Japan. One Piece and Pirates of the Caribbean did, but the "pirate" aspect of it never really swept the nation.
-
Like all shows it depends on the writers. For example, Hurricanger is far more serious than its counterpart Ninja Storm. But most recently RPM was set in a post-apocalyptic world and included two psychologically destroyed rangers while the original Go-onger was ultra campy. More than anything it's about standards and practices. Japan can get away with more than America in a kids' show. America also has to add a few more toys. Again, WE have to make THEIR footage work. Some seasons do almost direct adaptations and some completely change things up. 17 seasons have led to 17 very different results. There are seasons of Super Sentai I could watch over and over again and some that were a chore to watch. The same is true of Power Rangers. There is no hard and fast rule. That's why I suggest finding a theme you enjoy (dinosaurs, magic, police, pirates, ninjas, treasure hunters, etc.) and trying a few episodes of the corresponding Sentai and PR seasons. The variety means that there's a good chance some season out there can very easily get your foot in the door.

So, it would be fair to say that the "Americanized" version is a great deal more...ridiculous?
-
You just have to accept the stupidity that is adults in spandex fighting rubber monsters as something that can be taken seriously. I'm a huge fan but I know full well that's stupid. Most kids were first drawn in by the fights which, at times, contain stunning choreography. If live action fights aren't you think that could hurt the enjoyment. I recommend sentai. I'm not a sentai snob but sentai tends to produce deeper characters, richer stories, and comedy that isn't as forced. If you really want to give the genre a second chance then hit up youtube or tvnihon dot com (if you torrent) for Go Go Sentai Boukenger. That series really shows you all that Super Sentai/Power Rangers can be: drama, comedy, action, adventure, etc.

I may lose some nerd cred here, but I really can not stand the Power Rangers. I'm not trying to troll, I'm really just wondering what it is I'm missing. I never liked the shows when I was a kid and I still don't like them. Can anybody explain to me what I'm missing where I don't think Power Rangers is anything worth watching?

People can bag on the different themes all they want but it really is a testament to the longevity and creativity of this franchise. It's the 35th Super Sentai. Granted, some ideas have been reused (I'm looking at you Zyuranger and Abaranger) but just image trying to create suits, weapons, villains, robos, etc. that are all unique from one another 35 times and only now are they getting to pirates. These suits blend the sleek design of ranger suits with the more gaudy pirate appearance flawlessly. It utilizes the popped, douche collar well! Yeah, it's not perfect but damn it looks good. If anyone has seen Go Go Sentai Boukenger you know that tokusatsu can celebrate itself while still providing something fresh and action-packed. If you've seen Kamen Rider Decade then you know it can go all out fanboyism. On top of all that, sentai is just fun to watch more often than not (although I don't have many positive things to say about the current incarnation: Goseiger.) This season is going to be full of cameos, nods to the past, and new stuff. I'm looking forward to it. And of course, if you like One Piece or pirates in general this may be the show for you in the same way that Mahou Sentai Magiranger drew in the Harry Potter crowd.

I cant wait for Shinkengar to start airing in the US and now I have Pirates to look foward to as well. Nothing but epicness here folks. 35th anniversary of Super Sentai = fantastic super cool monster goodness. I cant wait to see the Zords as well. I have a feeling thats where we might see a giant eye patch or ship wheel :D
-
I could not care less. I really don't care for the show.
-
I'd take Power Rangers: Farm Force at this point.
-
er um there's never been a series called Go Go Power Rangers
-
tvnihon yo

Power Ranger IS Super Sentai. They just dub over the fight scene and re-film the rest with an American cast and add on some western Aesops. What ever the most recent Power Rangers trailer was about probably got posted here a couple years ago while it was in its original glory.
-
I remember I had an joke idea kind of like that, though they had a parrot zord and a monkey zord.
-
enh. Wasn't too big of a fan of Gosaiger, but Shinkenger was a truly fun show. Shinkenger Blue's antics were often the highlight of the episode.
-
Proof of how well One Piece is doing in Japan
-
That's awesome, I mean of course I haven't watched an episode of Power Rangers since I was a kid. I'll make an effort too find this.
-
Subbers please get on this as soon as it comes out.
-
Are they going to rape de pink ranger?
-
This isn't Power Ranger it's Super Sentai. so all of that has to be in Japanese
-
it's the 35th Anniversary of Super Sentai which means Kaizoku Sentai Goukaiger vs Super Sentai a big fuck and yes
-
I never 'got' Power Rangers.
-
Like Iowa.
-
Those costumes have a noticeable lack of eyepatch. So wrong. Im just waiting for Power Rangers:Cirque Du Soleil
-
Well, nice to see they're sticking to their "get on board with a big pop culture thing years after its peak" trend.
-
SQUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! X3
-
you post this yet you ignore the trailer for the newest season of power rangers? just how nerdy are you Rob?
-
Little curios about the pitch meeting for this one. "We need a theme for the new power rangers series, what do you got?" "Animals" "Cars!" "Planes!" "Ninjas!" "God!" "No, no, no. we did all of those already! Johnson! What was a fad that hit the public recently, but long enough ago that we seem original?" "Well, there was the Matrix" "No, we did that one already, too." "Okay, after that was lord of the rings." "Did it." "Pirates of the Carribean!" "Brilliant! Design their costumes to look like pirates while still looking futuristic and then we'll shove the pirate theme down the world's throats like a $5 hooker."
-
Interestingly enough, I read an article that I can't quite find at this moment that this new Sentai takes heavy influence from One Piece. So, yeah. This is gonna be aswesome.
-
Wait why did I not see it before? Go Go Power Rangers Pirates Vs. Go Go Power Rangers Ninjas!
-
Zombie Cowboys!
-
You shall always remember this day as the one where you almost caught Space Captain Jack Sparrow. Arrrrrrrrrrr the weird fucking shit that Japan comes up with. OK a little bit of fun for us all if you wish: If you could mix Power Rangers with anything and come up with something funny what would you do? Power Ranger Iron Sheff? Power Ranger Cave Men? Power Ranger Pink Rangers? Only hot girls in skimpy outfits jumping up and down. My favorite. Power Ranger Forest Rangers? Power Ranger Mounties?
-
that's sure what it looks like. if only they throw some cowboys in there for completeness.
-
Lazytown!!!
-
Wonder what their zords will be like, different boats?
-
ah, I get it now.
-
So they took the power rangers, who are essentially ninjas with super powers and merged them with pirates?
-
FONDUES IRRESPONSIBLE THIS?!
-
DO WHAT YOU WANT 'CAUSE A PIRATE IS FREE! YOU ARE A PIRATE!
-
This looks awesome! I hope it's as good a Shinkanger!
-
No, no, that was 2009's Super Sentai series, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, that's just starting to get Rangerized. They say Power Rangers Samurai will last for two years, which makes me doubt we'll see 2010's Super Sentai series, Tensou Sentai Goseiger, in Power Rangers form.. I hope this one gets Rangerized.
-
So, I took your advice, and I have to say that stirring fondue with a gun is awfully irresponsible. All I got was a mess and a lawsuit. Just a heads up.
-
Can we get a one piece crossover? :D
-
I thought they were calling it Powers Rangers Samurai here in America. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Rangers_Samurai Maybe they are pirate Samurai.
-
"...a gun which they can use to fight their enemies! " As opposed to a gun which they can use to stir fondue?
