John Newton? As in John Haymes Newton? As on John Haymes "Superboy" Newton? I wiki'ed it... yup, it's him.
-
AWESOME!! Very reminiscent of the Fleischer brothers great work from the 1940's! I WANT MORE!! I would ABSOLUTELY pay money for more of that stuff!!
-
Most enjoyable, haven't seen that in AGES. Makes you wonder what Superman's cape is made out of...
-
High five! Another Young Justice hater! *brofist*
-
Wow, a great job. Every exciting.
-
I'm with you. Why does Lois look like Cruella De Vil? I can see what he was going for and I applaud the effort, but it looks too much like a Disney cartoon. Sorry, just not feeling it.
-
Not cool. Hate to be a hater (and apparently in the minority here) but I saw "Mechanical Monsters" in 1984. This guy ain't no Max and Dave.
-
Not as overrated as Batman though.
-
Yeah, because DC isn't owned by a studio with its own first-class animation studio. Silly Warner Bros and their Looney Tunes.
-
Very cool. Maybe this and the spectacular Avengers cartoon will inspire DC to pick up their game in animation. The new Young Justice has no excuse to fail and yet somehow it does.

Meh, Superman is overrated.
-
He gets a pre-WW2 Mustang and flies around fighting off the robot invasion. It doesn't go entirely well, but he does okay all things considered. Lois nearly gets stepped on. Then... ...wait, sorry, I have confusion... Humor aside, this was in fact quite awesome. I got a special kick out of (1) the Disney-hero look to Superman's eyes; (2) how hellish Lois looked (the opening was clearly a nod to the 70s films in that detail, too); (3) the fact that Disney owns Marvel. {g}
-
What is this "phone booth" of which you speak? Great cartoon.
-
awesome looking nod to the old Max Fleischer classics.
-
Ditto to above author. Its a shame things can't be fun anymore.
-
Honestly, that's the first thing I thought. Wonder if this guy was just looping Sky Captain when he drew this. xD
-
And yet still better than Superman Returns...
-
Holy crap - that was perfect. Nerds need to be more open about their love for the classics, who knows how many more gems like this are hidden in attics & basements?
-
Ummm... Everybody KNOWS that this is a copy/hommage/rip-off of the original 1941 Fleischer Studios Superman "The Mechanical Monsters" short, right? No?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joFQIV2wJyE

That was beautifully done. But (and this guy is catching ire for a pile of much-inferior efforts, most of them live-action), I've got to admit that I'm getting tired of fan-videos using existing (usually super-hero) characters that, no matter how well done, have no story, just a reveal (of the hero, or of a villain) and no real development or resolution. That's not a short-film, it's a demo clip. Honestly, if somebody hooks this guy up with the rights, a writer, and the money to do a real story in this style, I'd be all over it. But I'm always much more impressed when somebody can manage to tell an actual story in their minute-or-two-or-three of fan-made awesome...
-
THANK YOU FOR GIVING HIM THE S-SHIELD ON HIS CAPE. Lazy animaters frequently drop that detail from supes. Oh yeah, the last move too.
-
Between "my bladder goes all silly Susan" and "Jinkies, I just said cock!" I am pretty sure I will never, ever, need to search for Nerdvana again.
-
Superman. Kicks. The. Living. Shit. Out. Of. The. Robots. And. Their. Maker. Fuck yeah!
-
This was insanely awesome!I love the old 40's vintage Superman cartoons and this has that flavor down to a tee.
-
Ha, and people were worried about Disney taking over Marvel. I'm pretty sure there are some folks at DC drinking themselves to sleep tonight over what could have been, if this was any indication.
-
Yeah, it's short, but in all fairness you get to see it again during the credits, without all that pesky sound and color.
-
Loved everything about it but Lois. God, she looked terrible. Like Izma almost. Which means Supes is Kronk! Heh.
-
You know the main problem with this? Its too short...this needs to be a series. I WISH that the WB had the balls to do a live-action Superman movie that looked like the Fleischer shorts. Throw in Krypto and Mxy and Super-Girl and Mad Scientist Luthor...my god that would be awesome(and best of all, something we havent seen before). Sadly, all parties involved seem intent on making Supes modern and telling his origin over and over again. THIS is the way to tell a Superman story.

Mechanical monsters intro....awesome....makes me want to watch Sky Captain...
-
I have decided I will now endeavor to use the phrase "my bladder goes all silly Susan" as much as possible in my daily interactions.
-
I think I speak for everyone when I say: MORE! GIVE US MORE!
-
It drives me insane to see such a terrific little film and know that I likely won't get even one iota of the same level of fun and excitement in the big-budget upcoming Hollywood flick. And, Pratt, well fucking done!
-
I'm both amazed by how good this is, and depressed that this is better than how WB Animation is using Supes in Young Justice.
-
Very...very cool.
-
Fun and Fleischery.
-
Lol of course I'm joking :p Meh its not much of a joke. I'll revert back to lurking...
-
Am I the only one who thinks an entire Justice League series in this style would be awesome?
-
Awesome! I wish this were longer!
-
on watching it again, holy crap that does look EXACTLY like the TARDIS. I wonder if it's intentional.
-
Give us more sir please, mister Pratt! :D
-
you're joking right? you know the robot stepped on him and the phone booth? or are you making a joke pretending you don't know what a phone booth is? :)
-
I don't know, but it might be an alt intro for this Fleischer cartoon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mb8iYqIVBzQ
-
Perfect. Makes me really think Disney could do some awesome cartoons...perhaps this is how they should do the next Wonder Woman?
-
I stand corrected. it WAS there beforehand. its still the Tardis though
-
Clark gets changed in the Tardis. It wasnt there beforehand, and it wasnt there afterwards
-
ITS A BIRD,ITS A PLANE,ITS A FROG
-
Beautiful. Well done.
-
But... But I want to see how it ends! How does it end??
-
Awesome. That was awesome. With watching this, re-reading my beloved Kingdom Come GN and finally buying All Star Superman Vol 1, I'm going through a Superman phase right now.
-
I liked it, which is funny, because I don't usually care for Superman. The short Superman cartoons from...the 60's? I'm not sure...anyways, they were my first exposure to Superman and were amusing when I saw them on animated collections as a kid, but I was never too impressed with how...generic he seemed in comparison to Bruce Wayne/Batman (I also watched B:TAS at that time). Oh, well.
-
That. Was. Epic.
