Can anyone tell if this guy got World 1-1 exactly right? Like, the correct number of bricks between pipes and everything? I kind of think he did, but I'm unwilling to check to make sure, as I'm genuinely scared of what the answer might be. Thanks to Jeremiah for the tip!
More links from around the web!
One glaring error is the accuracy of the fireballs. No way would each and every fireball find its target! You always had to fire a few times, especially if there were multiple enemies ahead.
Actually, I found it to be pretty accurate based on my own recollection. I still play SMB from time to time just for the nostalgic value.
There are no numbers when he gets points, I demand that all of his construction paper be burned and that he start over!
Actually it's quite neat.
I don't think this was done with physical construction paper or anything, it seems compiled in a program similar to how they do it in South Park. Hopefully I'm wrong though because that would be impressive effort by hand, not that it isn't impressive digitally as well.
He says on the video you tube page he did it in After Effects and says "I think it would have been faster if I did it by hand." so not actually done with paper. amazing job though - it's rad that we're just really angry he didn't get all the powerups.
They should make a game based on this! A paper-theme Super Mario.Call it Paper Mario or something like that. ;)
Joke/jab aside, this was cool.
I suspect this was rotoscoped, or at least heavily based on a video reference of somebody actually playing through the level.
I think this because the movement is very accurate. If I was doing this from memory, it wouldn't occur to me to have Mario spend half a second running towards a wall before he jumped (around 0:48). The coins also move in a weird video game-y way.
If this is from memory, the guy has an impressive eye for detail.
Cloud and bush shapes don't match.
Also did you see how many mystery blocks he passed by? Shameful!
Yeah, the 1-up block's visible, Fire Mario's colour is wrong, and some of the distances (like between the second pair of pipes) are slightly off. But otherwise, it's pretty damned good.
He's got the invisible 1-Up block after the first warp pipe as a Visible Question Block. And the distance between the block pyramid and the flag seems shorter than normal. Although I can't say for certain that's true. But those are the only things I could notice.
what's wrong with MLP!erections? They make you 20% cooler in 10 seconds flat... or so I've heard...
Back to Mario: Invisible "secret" 1-Up block was visible...
