FUCK!!! This is awesome!! I hope this movie does well and they make a trilogy. I need to see Godot and his goddamn coffee obsession and classy jazziness in life action format!!
HOLD IT!!
The only thing that would be even more awesome is if they announced that a Miles Edgeworth live-action movie is being shot back to back with this. Then I can die a happy man!
Given the choice, I'd have chosen an anime adaptation of Phoenix Wright/Gyakuten Saiban Yomigaeru Gyakuten, but as is, I can't wait to see this. Only problem I have is that Maya's bangs are too high or flat. But I love what I see so far.
I hope it winds up better than Miike's Yakuza/Like a Dragon adaptation. Please be good!
This is an early trailer, so it's likely just nerd-bait. I'd consider breaking it down, but that would require effort I don't think I can muster.
It looks like brief introductions for the principal cast (Phoenix, Edgeworth, Mia, Maya, Von Karma,) a short overview of the plot (Mia's murder, the DL-6 incident, the Gourd Lake shooting,) cameos for the secondary cast (Larry, Gumshoe, Dee Vasquez, Lotta Hart, and a cop wearing a Blue Badger helmet?) and introduction of some of the wackier plot elements (spirit mediums, whatever's going on with the screens.)
From a purely costume perspective, it looks excellent. Hard to say about the acting yet. I'm cautiously excited.
What I can suss out from the trailer:
1. Unlike American movie adaptations, this seems to be following the character designs incredibly closely.
2. It also seems to be following the STORY of the first game closely (DL6 incident, the Fey sisters, Manfred von Karma, etc.).
3. Despite all this, it seems to be taking a WAY darker tone than the games, literally and figuratively. The games were always dealing with murders, but things seem to be rather heavy this time around.
A three day trial, court cases are fast in the future. A murder crime 15 years earlier brings up a new crime, and a lot of screaming of objection. It does look interesting.
Jesus christ...I think the worst part of this trailer was I actually recognized every face and every case....
This would be the "self-loathing" part of the TR motto... welcome to the jungle.
Looks like fun! I was worried at first, but Takashi Miike has done over the top stuff.
