If every one of my professors sounded like George Takei I think I'd have learned a lot more in school.
More links from around the web!
I just spent 4 hours in Christmas shopping looking in vain for Lego Harry Potter. I should have stayed home and watched this for three hours and 50 minutes and spent the other ten doing what I did anyway and doing my shopping online. Luckily, this wiped away all memory of those dark times.
This makes me think about the episode of Community that Takei did the outro for and now I'm sad.
Captain Sulu, u got my Stake. And my Laser Sword. And my Phaser. And my Sword made of Valyrian Steele. And, and my Wand.* collective Sigh* Ok, Potter you are in.
He's right. The man is right! Trekkies! Set your phaser to kill and ready your Vulcan death grip! Masters of the Force! Ready your lightsabers and space magic! Our true enemies sparkle, and they are supported by rabid fanbase!
Stay strong! Stay true! Stay steady on the course! For they can take away our beloved vampire and werewolf mythos away from us, but they can never take...OUR FREEDOM!!!
"...and anyway, if you still argue about this, it means YOU ARE MADE OF STUPID."
Takei dixit.
I'm not sure if he's the bottom or the top,so you might want to make sure before you make such a bold declaration in Latin.
I like when people unabashedly take digs at horrible franchises. On that note:I am surprised the Xmas Community episode was not mentioned on TR yet, they eviscerated Glee. Now I have to prepare for regionals.
Star PeaceEpisode 4: A New Threat
I say we give Takei Count Douku's fencing lightsaber and let him take care of the Twitards for us =P
Still, he's too valuable to lose. I'd say leave it all to Buffy and Blade. We'll send in Death Dealer Selene as a back up plan.
that was the best thing to come from the carrie will show down love. George telling them both to shut their mouths and make peace. plus also love George not carring for twilight . props to George for demanding sci fi fans all get along and stop twilight and for finaly telling the shat and Carrie to behave over this star wars is better then star trek debate.
Well, in the sense that the Star Trek movie from a few years ago is derivative of Star Wars, yes. That's what Hollywood does.
Star Wars is derivative of, well, a lot of things. Mostly mythology; it's really a celebration of mythic tropes. But also Westerns, jidai geki, and the like. (Lucas is reportedly a huge Kurosawa otaku.)
d/dx=f(g(x))=f'(g(x))*g'(x)
Yo dawg, I heard you like math, so I put a function in a function so you can derive while you derive.
vger.... vger! I know who the inventor IS. ... the shat ... is the inventor ... of derivative
Sure he does - Star Trek ToS aired years before Star Wars was made, and you could make the argument that Star Wars derived some of its elements and ideas from Star Trek, thus being derivative.
Star Wars wasn't an attempt to be derivative of Star Trek though. It's derivative of the even EARLIER serials like Buck Rogers and such.
Other than the fact the two both take place in space, there's not a lot of similarities. Star Trek's traditionally a slower show that deals more with issues/philosophy, with the occasional battle that moreso resembles naval combat. Star Wars is adventure in space with air force style dogfighting.
And since "Forbidden Planet" was exactly a retelling of "The Tempest" (...IN SPACE!!!!)...
Also in the original treatment/pitch for Trek (available here: http://leethomson.myzen.co.uk/... ) Roddenberry describes the proposed show as "Star Trek is a "Wagon Train" concept" (...IN SPACE!!!!).
Yeah, I think it's more that Star Trek's derivative of, if anything, The Tempest, while Star Wars is more derivative of all the B-movies and a few greats like Kurosawa.
Christ on toast! We're not REALLY having this argument here? On a thread for a video about fan unity?!
yay :) I din't know takei was part of both franchises either. next we need a video of kirk and leia battling it out old school against the ss twilight with emo vampires and hot as heck wolves. and the only way to top that would be to get either a drunk harrison ford or nemoy out of retirement for a second to do a cameo.
Personally I would like to see Nemoy and Ford get together for one of these videos. Both had the distinction of being the sidekick who was more popular than the hero, so it seems to be a match made in heaven.
I assume Takei is referring to the character he voiced on Clone Wars when he says he was part of both franchises.
Can't think of anything else.
BEST THING EVER!Anyone not following George Takei on Facebook is missing out. The man is awesome.
