Getting into Doctor Who can be a bit daunting. Heck, even beginning with the nu-Who can be a bit much, now that it has six series, several TV specials, and three Doctors all on its own. So why not watch this super-quick compilation of every single one of the Doctor's adventures as assembled by Babelcolour? It's not very long, considering how many episodes there have been -- and the video is happy to sacrifice speed for coherency -- but it certainly does include them all. So when people ask you if you've seen Doctor Who, now you'll be able to say "Yes. Now please change the subject." Thanks to Aidan O. for the tip.

I came.

Yeah, I was being a dick, intentionally so. Normally, I wouldn't post over such a trivial thing. But since I figured a little clarification was in order for the less-initiated, I'd take the opportunity to sub-textually express my disapproval through dickishness. Obviously I overshot my mark. Still, I stand behind the sentiment because trying to sound sophisticated at the expense of clarity with one's audience is more befitting the Jersey Shore crowd than the nerd crowd.

I apologize for making my point completely incomprehensible to you. I also apologize that I seem to have no remedy for that. Cheers.

So you think that a series of episodes should be called something other than a series? Even when devised, written, shot, and broadcast in a country that refers to it as a series? How does that make sense? Doctor Who has nothing to do with the US, so why should the BBC use american terminology? And since the BBC specifies the naming conventions of its own programmes, why should anyone not use them? Quite aside from which, a season typically consists of twenty or more episodes, since it lasts almost a season long. BBC programmes normally last between six and thirteen episodes, making them considerably shorter than a season. Thus BBC programmes run in series, not seasons. Stop being so america-centric and realise that there are other countries out there that do things differently from you, and that respecting that isn't a bad thing.
-
there's a huge difference between a variation on a language and a completely different language. but you are right, on an american-centric web site it does make more sense to use american terms. me and prob anyone else who took a contrary opinion were probably responding more to your attitude than your opinions and I apologize for that. look at your original post and honestly think about whether you were trolling or expressing your opinion.

I'd have to disagree.

I'm not so sure about that.

edit: double-post

And do you folks watch the latest kūru of your favorite Japanese programs, or the latest season? I'm guessing the latter. That's because Americans, addressing a predominantly American audience through an American media outlet, typically use American parlance when they want to be readily understood. The fact is most Americans (including a lesser, but nonetheless significant, portion of TR readers) are unaware that the British call a season of a TV series, a "series". By using terminology that, in-context, means something else to them, merely to sound worldly, one risks confusing or misinforming them. Folks with a background in journalism are supposed to appreciate that fact. I can't imagine why Brits, under equivalent circumstances, wouldn't say "series" for an American (or any other foreign) show, since that's the term they're familiar and comfortable with. Tell ya' what, though, let's forget about my argument and see what The Authority has to say on the subject of the proper application parlance: http://www.bbcamerica.com/doctor-who/guide/ Well, waddaya' know?

And kudos for putting in Sylvester McCoy's version of the "Pandorica Opens" speech from a fan convention.

Guy does great stuff. Check out his trailer for a "10 Doctors" special with cool stuff (Like the two Masters facing off).
-
This just further inspires me to continue my trek through the whole series (what still exists anyways). it also shows me how much further I have to go. im only up to 79. I did skip most of the first two doctors because the first season bored the hell out of me. I may go back and complete it at some point.

I thought there was stuff missing. I think they should have included the regenerations too.
-
agree with MadGerard. british show british terms. if I was talking to brits about an american show i would expect them to call them seasons not series.
-
British show, British terminology. Simple as that.

They didn't even show Colin Baker - the 6th Doctor - low blow.

Ok. I have now seen things. I still know nothing though. Just images.

But you'd count Dimensions in Time? :S

The Doctor

What made this for me was hearing Sylvester McCoy saying 11's speech from the pandorica opens. *flails with delight*

What, the guy who doesn't use potentially confusing treminology to sound pretentious? So, you're saying I should sound pretentious, then? Okay. I was just going to hop into my lorry and go down to McDonald's; everyone want cheese on their Royale? Yup, much better, inso? BTW, do you suck fags?
-
I find your lack of Brit-speak unsettling. Also, don't be that guy. Seriously.

Curse of Fatal Death was a somewhat-parodic comedy sketch made for the charity Comic Relief. It may have been produced with the blessing of the BBC and involved Steven Moffat, but I wouldn't count it as canon.

Why would you want to block out a memory of shirtless Jason Connery? Mmm.

Second time around. I'm allowed to get the order mixed up when discussing time travel. :)
-
That was a pretty horrible episode. Shame because I liked Sil the first time around (the Trial episodes had their ups and downs, but Sil and BRIAN BLESSED were great in my opinion).
-
I have the feeling you mean to say "... the video is happy to sacrifice coherency for speed..."
-
GAH! Why? Why did they use Sil as the thumbnail image? I had managed to block out all memory of Vengeance on Varos. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?
-
Enough with the nitpicking. This is awesome!

Man, for all the Doctors it touts, I'm shocked that The Airzone Solution wasn't in there too...

I was looking for Curse as well - Joanna Lumley as the only female Doctor.

Six series? I thought it was only one series that has lasted six seasons. Oh, that's right, Washington DC is in the UK. Sorry, forgot.

Just for a Pyrrhic victory it's 8den not Aidan O. And technically it's not every Doctor Who episode. Over 106 of episodes from the 60s and early 70s were wiped and possibly completely lost. Seriously there are more lost episodes of Doctor Who than existing episodes of Star Trek OS. And Pedantically it doesn't include the many radio plays with Doctor's like Richard E Grant. So yeah I get a hat tip from Rob and Nerd out. Just as well I have my T-shirt already.

I didn't see Curse Of The Fatal Death?? Did I miss it??
