So That’s Who Benedict Cumberbatch Is Playing in Star Trek 2

Karl Urban done fucked up.

During an interview with SFX magazine, Urban seems to have accidentally revealed Cumberbatch’s character, and thus the main villain of Star Trek 2: Gary Mitchell. If you haven’t heard of him, he’s Kirk’s Starfleet Academy friend and original Enterprise navigator who encounters some crazy alien field and gets godlike powers in the Star Trek‘s first official episode (a.k.a. the second pilot, with Shatner), goes crazy, and eventually Kirk has to kill him. Whether Gary will still be Kirk’s pal, seeing as he wasn’t seen in the first movie, or will touch a crazy alien field and get god-like powers remains to be seen, of course. 
There also is the slight possibility that Karl Urban is trolling the fuck out of us, possibly at the behest of J.J. Abrams. It’s totally something Abrams would do, tell Urban to “accidentally” mention a character who happens to not be in the movie at all. However, I don’t see any evidence to contradict this info at the moment, and I’m still really, really happy it’s not Khan, so I’m going with it for now. Thank to Lookatme111 for the tip!
