Sadly Gungan Style is actually a canon thing in the Star Wars Expanded Universe: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Gungan_Style
I approve of this video.
Next time you're putting together a mashup featuring Lady Gaga's next hit, and characters from Star Trek, just stop and think: "WHAT THE FUCK AM I DOING?"
With all these remixes of Gangnam Style, how long is until we get one done by Aurora Spencer?

does that cover everything? Let me know if I missed anything. Pretty much every thing and type of creature has been filmed "dancing" to the tune.
@gagagalvatron wtf is up with My Voice Nation selectively not informing me of replies
anyway
yes, you make excellent points, however if your work is all there is to you, you have deeper issues and there it ends giving us the illusion of deeper issues yet still only a view of those issues through the shallow lens of pop culture.
Popular film, music, comedy, art and even politics exist only as second hand interpretations of the world made third hand by our interpretation of them. They are as substantive as a dream.
@Gallen_Dugall @Johnnien Gangnam Busters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82LCKBdjywQ
@Gallen_Dugall Yabut, I don't think the video is mocking just one thing. It's mocking Gangnam, the Prequels, the idea of parody videos, and I even think the idea that it's all worthless -- the writer ends up a Supreme Court Justice, after all, with a smile that seems to indicate resiliency in the face of irrelevance. Is he mocking all videos? Just lame ones?
It's a rather unflinching look at one's own work and one's part in the world. You can draw the message that the whole endeavor is worthless, as Gotye is so clearly 15 minutes ago now. Yet I think it's more than that.
In any case, if this had been 4 minutes of Gungan style, there'd be nothing to discuss. I liked that it had the inventiveness to ask a lot of questions and present it in a way that doesn't exactly resolve everything. At the end of a day, you still have a comedy writer writing a comedy video for nerds, so even if he is saying it's a pointless waste of a job, he's *still* doing it.
@gagagalvatron @nix.nightbird I agree with your assessment on the misuse of the word parody - it's probably more accurate to call this satire and the rest of them coat-tailing.
My only issue with the video is that the bandwagon of pop culture being a shallow waste of time isn't really news, or confined to pop culture. Also I found the aggrandizement of "real work" is annoying since the number of "important" jobs in the world is far smaller than those qualified to fill them and many of the "unimportant" jobs are the ones that make everything else work. I have no problem with the people who exploit these fads for their own ends even if it is just a way for them to feel shallowly connected to something or someone else. We live in a cold impersonal heartless world of emotionally crippled folks - if making a video helps people to get through the day, or earns them a paycheck, I'm cool with it.
@nix.nightbird Did you watch the video that's the subject of this article? I'm not sure I would call it a parody (although there certainly is that element), but it's most certainly NOT a copy or a validation. It looks at this whole phenomenon in a way I think you'd appreciate.
If it's your policy to not watch these kinds of videos, this is the time to make an exception.
@grace.rubyroses @gagagalvatron sorry I can't help as I was stripped of my status as the lesser-semi-demi-god of search prompts.
@nix.nightbird@Someguy@Johnnien
Speaking of validation my brief venture into deification is over. First off if you ever wanted to be deified now is the time as many Pantheons find themselves struggling to stay relevant or even reinvent themselves you will not have a better opportunity. Second don’t bother with the Hindus unless you have at least three arms (Vishnu is pretty quick to spot fakes), don’t mention the Thor movie in front of the Norse Pantheon (they hated it), and do not say that the Roman and Greek Pantheons are pretty much the same (apparently not). The Egyptian Pantheon was pretty laid-back, they gave me a position as Lesser God of Search Prompts (it’s technically a semi-demi-god position, but what the heck) and I spent the morning getting them all little gifts of appreciation (it’s that kind of a gig) which went well until I got to Bast. I grow my own cat-nip and I gave her a kilo which she promptly poured out on the floor and began to roll in, so I’m thinking that everything’s good there and move on to do some lesser-semi-demi-god stuff, but apparently she has a bit of a substance abuse problem and ended up running amok all over the place clawing things up and leaving scent markings – long story short I got blamed for the whole fiasco and was thrown out of the Pantheon. Good news is that while divine I managed to reroute some ley lines down in Antarctica so that the whole penguinapocalypse thing won’t happen. So once again I saved the world and have nothing to show for it. Sometimes I feel like my life is some crappy ’80s TV show where everything has to be back to where it started from at the end of each episode. Oh well at least there’s FFF today.
@gagagalvatron @Gallen_Dugall I read GumGum Style and now I kinda want a One Piece version...somehow...Gallen?
@Gallen_Dugall @Someguy @Johnnien
And last year there were sixty billion "Friday" videos, too. Next year there will be some other stupid hit.
And I would point out these are not parodies. The purpose of parody is to make light of the original concept/person, but these videos all glorify it. They're less parody, and more homage. They VALIDATE the original by copying it, but with other characters. That's not tearing down or making fun of anything.
Weird Al did parodies. He made fun of the original concept/song/person with his versions. Most of the Gangnam Style videos are just making true statements about the character in each specific video without actually making fun of them.
@gagagalvatron @Gallen_Dugall Is Meelo Style animated by one of the actual animators from the show an acceptable substitute for that last one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=-KBEE0NhyEE
And this cosplay video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvMw6e9T85M&feature=related
@Someguy @Johnnien I checked and there are over sixteen trillion gangnam style parodies on Youtube - so there should be more than a few that fit whatever perverse tastes you have. Personally I'm trying to leverage my otherworldly power over search prompts into godhood... or maybe some breadsticks... whatever.
@Gallen_Dugall @Johnnien I don't know that guy doesn't have beer in each hands and is wearing clothes.
@rabidronnie @gagagalvatron MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I have the ultimate power in the universe - For I alone have mastered the SEARCH PROMPT - BUWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
@Someguy @Johnnien It'll look something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23OjQ_3ZgWw
@Gallen_Dugall @Johnnien By Odin's Beard!! You don't thing there is a Topless Robot Style, do you? Rob dancing around on his desk and such. I mean it would explain why he post so many. Hoping YouTube will link us to his version.
@gagagalvatron @Gallen_Dugall Don't forget GonGon style, featuring the cast of the childish and yet exceedingly disturbing game Super Monkey Ball
I want GumGum Style, featuring the Easter Island head from Night at the Museum.
I want Gimli Style, featuring the dwarves from LotR.
I want Gurney Style, featuring sandworms and freak-dancing Fremen.
I want Gonzo Style, featuring the Muppets.
I want Appa Sokka style, featuring the cast of Avatar
Get busy.
@Nicnac you might try focusing on your anger
presumably that will make you strong
And that's what makes it brilliant, because it also parodies those teeny pop artists who are way, WAY over their 15 minutes of fame as well, like Britney Spears.
So, Rob. Are you trying to tell us something by posting this? Are we supposed to be envious, or suicidal right now? 'Cause I'm leaning towards suicidal.
Heh, who am I kidding? I can't die! Not unless I say the name of the Wizard, and no one's going to trick me into doing that. Yep. Gonna live for....evvvv....errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr............
@CaptainZADL Just remember that even "successful" people get depressed at the emptiness of their accomplishments. The important thing is to live in the now and not take things too seriously. You might never cure cancer or enjoy the respect of your peers or even learn basic grammar, but you can still enjoy FFF.
...
until they run out of Robs
@Gallen_Dugall @CaptainZADL Then we will have to put the Rob Matrix straight into a computer.
@YakubShabazz if you drink enough booze you won't feel anything - it's pretty miraculous
@Gallen_Dugall @YakubShabazz Is this some kind of alt account Rob or Village is using to inflate comment numbers? Seriously, he's responsible for like 30% of all recent comments on TR articles...
@Excal @YakubShabazz OH I love me some conspiracies! But it's not batguanno enough. Let's see, is it an anagram? maybe some form of code? I GOT IT - he mentions someone named "Jesus" so it must be the one of the assassins from the bioethics and human dignity people - trying to create an established persona within the TR community!
You know, it occurred to me. If it wasn't for all these parody videos I wouldn't even know about Gangnam Style, Call me Maybe, whatever the hell the Batman thing was parodying. Now I'm not saying this is a good thing.
daaamn this is art, goddamnit, good art, damn
Now excuse me I need to think about my life up till now
@Bookfisher You can save a lot of time if you skip straight to the drinking - life is depressing.
@nix.nightbird What's it like being such a Debbie Downer? Like Eat some candy and watch or do something that you like. Beyond raining on parades.
Smile once in a while k?
