Sorry, folks, this isn't the long-cried-for and totally-not-going-to-happen Doctor Who/Sherlock crossover. Instead, it's a pretty well-made fan trailer for the long-cried-for and totally-not-going-to-happen Doctor Who/Sherlock crossover, which I'm calling Sherloctor Who because I amuse myself far more than I should. I'm really enjoying how evil the Doctor seems in this -- which stands to reason, of course; the good guys always have to fight a bit before they join forces to fight the real bad guys, namely the unparalleled scenery-chewing of Moriarty and The Master. Much, much thanks to Chris B. for the tip.

Considering how much time I've spent on tumblr, I think this crossover is called "WhoLocked"
The problem with a Sherlock/Doctor Who crossover is not the upset of Sherlock's fictional universe, but the base incompatibility between the two. The Doctor is so exciting because his mystery, he shows a lot, but you are always left the idea that there is more underneath, a hidden though, a secret bit of knowledge. Sherlock on the other hand is so exciting because he uncovers all secrets and breaks all mystery.
When the two would meet, one would have to lose, either the Doctor loses his secrets or Sherlock fails to uncover everything. Each one of those would break the character, the Doctor without his secrets would lose his otherness, he would cease being just a tiny bit alien, a tiny bit weird and there is no way Sherlock would be able to let go of the mystery, not knowing would break mentally. Or at least that's my opinion, it sounds really awesome at first, but I don't think it can really work.
@DeusMortus Well, I'd actually disagree with you regarding Sherlock. The Sherlock Holmes of the BBC show HAS been shown to be wrong a few times, or not able to guess everything, and definitely within the original novels, where he was defeated or completely mistaken several times. So it wouldn't be incongruent for him to be unable to figure out the Doctor.
@DeusMortus I dunno, I see it being left off as unfinished business between them. the doctor doesn't give up his secrets and sherlock doesn't figure them out so they get stuck in a perpetual stalemate over it.
Wouldn't work for long so it would have to be a one time show/miniseries/etc.
Wow that looks cool! If such a cross over took place it would make the Sherlock series lose all credibility from that point forward. Though it's a good show, the sacrifice of it's credibility might just be worth it. Maybe make this the ultimate jumping of the shark. A study in time, what a great title!
@forester Just make it a non-canonical Children in Need special! I refuse to believe it can't happen!
@Lady-Rainicorn @forester I was going to say this. A Christmas special would be perfect, non-canon, a little silly...
@Nicnac @Lady-Rainicorn Children in need or christmas Special, Yea! those are both fantastic ideas, perhaps some exec somewhere is reading these and will claim the idea as their own. If that what it takes, let it be so.
Yup, fell for that title hook, line and sinker and almost starting squealing in the middle of my lecture before I clicked through to the actual article. Hey, after the Star Wars announcement, I'm willing to believe anything can happen these days.
Having now watched it, that is FUCKING awesome! Hell, Star Wars has turned around, the Hobbit is next month, we nerds are on a roll. Make this happen!
Docsher Wholock ... that was as painful for me to type as I'm certain it was for you to read it.
can the dr help with sherlock's constipation? is he going to ensure that sherlock's colon is large inside than out? and what sort of made by japan hijinx will ensue?
