Since Starz' Spartacus series is coming to an end, the channel finds itself in dire need of a historical drama they can pack with shit-tons of sex, nudity and violence. This is the only reason I can think of why Da Vinci's Demons exists, a show which posits the Renaissance genius as a leather-coat-wearing badass who loves the ladies while things around him explode. It'll still have a hard time matching Spartacus in the tits and blood categories -- Spartacus having been birthed from the id of a 12-year-old boy -- but it does look like it's going to give it the old Vinci try. Although if Leonardo reveals he's a Delta Knight at any point during the series, I'm blowing up Starz HQ. (Via Blastr)

But...but I thought the historical da Vinci was a pacifist who wasn't into women! I thought he liked men!

It's kind of strange that they are trying to show him as a "ladies' man", when his only real history with women is pretty platonic. Plus he had somewhat of an infatuation for his male assistant and was accused of sodomy.

Also wasn't there an Ancient Aliens episode where they say he got all of his inspiration from spending time with aliens because you know...Aliens...
If they wanted a renaissance badass, they should have gone with Michelangelo (or Caravaggio, but he was even more of an asshole). Maybe he will show up as Leonardo´s Mycroft.

My brain melts a little when they refer to him as da Vinci as if it was his last name. So who do they revise next? "Rodin's Rebellion?" "Michelangelo: Blood and Marble?" "Copernicus: Renaissance Vampire PI?" (Actually, I might watch the last one.)

I was at the NYCC panel for this show. Apparently Da Vinci's bi. And Lara Pulver suggest I audition for the role of Da Vinci's boyfriend. ;)

will they show his relationship with the aliens (if ancient aliens is to be believed) and how he travelled through time to see stuff he later invents in his notebooks. plus there was the whole gay thing which lead to his exile from florence.

Da Vinci did design some badass weapons, maybe if I didn't automatically picture him as an old man with a long beard. That's how he's ALWAYS been portayed, so this could be fresh but likely stupid fun like Abe Lincoln: vampire hunter.
Hasn't it been agreed on by historians for YEARS now that Leonardo Da Vinci was gay?

Every episode will have an introduction by Robert Langdon, pointing all the clues left in DaVinci's work to prove the veracity of the episode.
OK, I am assuming this is going to play off of Da Vinci's ties with the Medici? I don't even know. I don't like the portrayal of Leonardo I am seeing but I am interesting in the Medici and the role they played in his life.
I am torn.

@mslinsenmayer @vangald @rprinkey I was under the impression the only evidence there was, was a false claim someone made that he had sodomized a younger dude against his will in order to mess up his reputation and get him detained by the secret police Italy had at the time (I forget what they were called at the time).
Non the less I am skeptical since for several years now every time I turn around there is someone saying another historical figure is gay based on dubious claims, re interpreting words etc.
Though I will say that if we start talking about people who lived in pre Christian European areas I don't question it as much. Since ancient sexuality is a whole different beast with two (or more) backs.
