"This is a true story" Ahahahahahahaha! Yes, true stories happen in slow-motion with green/blue filters all the time. But yes, it's loosely based on events reported in the Miami New Times, featuring characters who are considerably less likable than those usually played by Marky Mark and The Rock.
Here's the funny thing - Bay will probably get a lot less crap for taking liberties with the life stories of real people than he did for taking liberties with the designs of toy robots.
Maybe that's because Optimus was already likable.

You know... that man Ego trip became a fucking journey around the galaxy the instant his NAME (in URL form, no less) become the FIRST damn thing in a trailer of one of his movies. DAMN THAT CURSED MAN!
So I went and read all three parts of that story this is based on... Jesus, that is so incredibly fucked up. :(

Just in case it's not clear...
"Michael Bay" is a tag on this site not because we love him and not because we want to keep informed on all his projects. Most of the time, it's because what he's doing is so awful that it needs to appear here so we can believe such atrocities really are happening, rally the troops, and provide counseling for one another.
This? Not ruining any beloved nerd properties, and as far as I'm concerned, it's fine. Please, Michael Bay, make more movies like this. Make nothing but movies like this. Because I don't care how bad they are because I will never see them. I can continue on my merry way, happy that my world and Michael Bay's world intersect in a null set. The way it should be.
I totally agree and couldn't have said this better myself. I have no problems with movies like this because they just don't concern me and this is the type of movie that MFB seems to be good at. He just needs to stay away from established franchises that we in the nerd community care about.

Okay, now that I've managed to reclaim the brain cells that dribbled out my ears while I was watching that. . . .
It seems that Bay and Wahlberg are trying to form a Burton-Depp type symbiosis, only one with significantly less charm or entertainment value. (Don't get me wrong, the Burton-Depp duo can get tired and irritating, but I'd watch one of their movies 1,000 times before assaulting my eyes with one of these misbegotten features.)

Mark Wahlberg and The Rock have a scene where they work out with cinder blocks or GTFO!
I would also like to hear a line where Wahlberg says, "Say hi to your mother for me" in that great accent.
