Being funnier than Chris Hardwick is really not a challenge. I know rocks that are funnier than him on a regular basis. I consider Hardwick the Nerd Hipster poster boy.
Ok on to the show. It really was lacking a lot. I saw a review sum it up best with they could have put this as the mid-season finale. It felt like they dragged out 5 minutes worth of show for 43 minutes.
I despised the farm on season 2 but even that mid-season premiere was a hell of a lot better than this one. As far as I am concerned I feel they have diverged from the comics a bit TOO much and maybe they should really look at them for more inspiration. The Lori phone was much more effective at making Rick look nutso than the ghost of Lori and Lincoln's semi-terrible crazy acting. Don;t get me wrong I like Lincoln as Rick, but sometimes he's a bit off the mark.
Outside of that, if I have to watch Beth and Rick get it on then I am rage quitting this show. Though it appears she is taking the inappropriate route that Carol had in the comic (for those unfamiliar with the comic Carol wanted to marry Rick and Lori and put moves on both of them.) It almost feels like they are putting Beth into that crazy bitch role which is really unbecoming of hera nd means she will probably screw Tyreese and then sacrifice herself to a zombie when Tyreese screws Michonne.
@dweber77 I like that the Nerdist has created content that's not just scifi fantasy nerd stuff. THey have music nerds, food nerds, video game nerds, tech nerds. That was all Chris Hardwick, so I give him props.
It's not his fault it made "nerd culture" a popular format. But he should get the credit. It's the same with Big Bang Theory. Is it the kind of person I am? No, it's a generalization and stereotype.
@BowtiesAreCool OK I can definitely see that yes they have created something awesome and I speak of Nerdist. Nerdist as a whole is a good thing, it was Hardwick that I spoke of.
Most of my attitude comes from the Nerdist youtube channel when it first started. It was a few original pieces and then a bunch of recycled clips like Kids in the Hall. I will say to an extent I can appreciate all of this as it is exposing the younger kids to some of the awesome stuff that happened when I was growing up. So I will give you that. :)
But back to the subject at hand and that is Chris Hardwick. Let's take Nerdist out of the picture and only focus on The Talking Dead. (If I sound a bit elitist then I apologize in advance.) I watched Talking Dead a few times and where I thought it had it's quiet giggle moments, it really did not have anything pure comedy wise that was awesome. He does not ask a lot of pressing questions and he lets the guests act like utter fools! A specific example is the last episode of T-Dog. He had the actor and one Denise Huth on. IronE was acting like a fool and the Huth was just keeping mostly quiet almost as if she was embarrassed to be on there. Hardwick made no attempt to keep things on track and I found it to be a huge turn off.
I have yet to watch the one from this past weekend with Kevin Smith, but seriously that was just a damn tie in for Comic Book Men! Yes the main problem is AMC and Hardwick has to play by their rules but stand up for your show! Which speaking of AMC's f up with Talking Dead, the last bumper for Talking Dead featured a Super Lour Hardwick immediately after a very dramatic scene and it was garish and uncalled for. I think some toning down needs to be done in general for Talking Dead's bumpers.
Wow I really did not mean to go off on a tangent here. I apologize for that.
But I do want to thank you for your insight @BowtiesAreCool.
@BowtiesAreCool Uncomfortable to the point that I am beginning to wonder if he is kept in that chair by AMC with a locking mechanism that is shoved up his arse.
@dweber77 @BowtiesAreCool I totally agree that Talking Dead is a trainwreck of cross promotions. Since I listen to the Nerdist Podcasts they sometimes have a filler episode call "Hostful Podcasts" where the three host just talk about shit that's going on in their careers.
Hardwick seems like a very sweet guy who doesn't like to make enemies. He has professed his aggravation about the bumpers he's had to do between scenes on The Walking Dead, how stupid they are, and how it makes him look like an ass. The format was changed to an hour, and he'll have a show on BBC for Nerdist so I think this gig is becoming more of just a paycheck. He's not funny on Talking Dead. It feels like he's uncomfortable.
@LYT @dweber77 @BowtiesAreCool Well I guess this show did prove where it falls in the time line of the real world. Hines Ward was one of the zombies in this episode and we all know he was the one football player to outrun Bane's explosion in Dark Knight Rises.
So once Bane blows up the stadium Ward will go to live in the south and end up turning into a zombie. I wonder if this all went down at that night club that Roethlisberger got busted at in Georgia?
@dweber77 @BowtiesAreCool I'm pretty sure Hardwick himself had a problem with the way the bumper thing was done.
He's not a bad guy - but can we be funnier in comments than Talking Dead is? I think we can do it.
