It has often been speculated that HAL, the mentally unstable computer from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, was named after an IBM computer, what with each letter in his name being just one off in the alphabet.
Based on fan fears about Microsoft’s recent creation, however, he would seem to bear a much greater resemblance to a different machine of 2013. Well, the company always did feel pretty monolithic…
