Over the weekend, character actor Meshach Taylor died at the age of 67. Best known for his work on TV’s Designing Women and in the two Mannequin films, Taylor was a stage and screen veteran, as well as an accomplished voiceover artist whose credits include roles on Static Shock and Aaahh!!! Real Monsters. (Genre fans may also remember him from roles in Damien: The Omen II, The Howling and Explorers, as well as guest spots on Alf and The Incredible Hulk). He was a reliable go-to guy whose comedic timing was criminally underrated, and he will be missed.

Also, it should be mentioned that as a Philadelphia resident, I’ve noticed people in the City of Brotherly Love have an unironic reverence for Mannequin. We already have a Rocky statue, so maybe it’s time to get a Bronze doppelganger of Hollywood Montrose outside of the old Wanamaker’s store that stood in on screen for Prince and Company.

R.I.P. Meshach Taylor, and thanks for all the great entertainment.
