The Zelda TV Show is Not to Be

Rumors of the Legend of Zelda TV show are greatly exaggerated. As of today, Nintendo officially squashed our hopes.

Back in February, The Wall Street Journal reported (well, postulated) that Nintendo and Netflix were working on a TV series based on The Legend of Zelda. The show was to be a harsh, gritty medieval fantasy show along the lines of – natch – Game of Thrones. It was a quiet non-announcement, but some fans of the video game series became very wiggly over the news.

Sadly, as of today, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced that the TV show was just a rumor. In an interview with Time Magazine Iwata said that there are no current TV or movie crossover plans for Nintendo IPs, and that the Netflix Zelda show was “not based on correct information.”

Well, crap. The fantasy epic that video game fans have been hoping for is but a dream.

Although, if Nintendo wants to hear my pitch for a Metroid feature film, call me, Satoru. I’m in the book.
