The Masters of the Universe Classics Line Needs Your Help (By Which I Mean Me)

See, a few weeks ago, Mattel confirmed to ToyNewsI that there would be no—as in zero—2002 He-Man designs in their upcoming, collector-oriented Masters of the Universe Classics line. So even if they made new figures of characters which appeared in the new cartoon, like Count Marzo or such, he would be designed to look like a figure made in 1983. I was too depressed to report this on TR.
As you might recall, I find this fucking insane. I mean, just look at Trap-Jaw up there. Who really wants a well-articulated version of the old version over the awesomely badass, Four Horsemen-designed 2002 version? Again, it's the new version that could best benefit from increased articulation, sculpting and a better scale (so the big characters are actually appropriately big). Look, just read my original rant here. I promise I'm not the only He-Fan to feel this way (and yes, I'm ashamed to admit I'm a big enough He-Man nerd I might as well used the preferred nomenclature).
Well, apparently Mattel has heard a bit of this fan discontentment regarding their line which is supposedly all about the fans, because He-Man.org is running a poll asking what collectors want regarding the new line—whether they want the old-school figures, the 2002 designs, or even She-Ra or New Adventures figures.
Look, I haven't asked for much, but I'm outright begging any of you with the slightest interest in He-Man toys to go over to the He-Man.org poll and vote. You don't even have to vote for more 2002 figures—maybe I'm wrong, but I'm betting most of you want awesome versions of the awesome He-Man toys instead of awesome versions of the old, shittier toys. If enough people vote on this, Mattel will pay attention—they know the fans are the audience here. Please—I need new Jitsu and Spikor figures. It's the only thing I'm living for.

I'm afraid I must be quite a Philistine for being fine with updated sculpts of the original designs...
But I remember the outcry that occurred when the 200X designs were first revealed on He-Man.org. Many fans hated the "McFarlanesque" designs, and at the time, I defended them.
So it's with some irony that I find myself defending MOTUC now. I admit the 200X Trapjaw is badass, no question, but I'm not fond of his overblown, anime-style, Borg-like arm. I can see a smaller, sleeker arm working just as well.
I feel I can safely consider myself a He-Fan, and I'm OK with MOTUC. But then, I'd also be fine if the designs were based on the 200X versions, as long as they had ball-jointed necks and hinged elbows and knees. The only exception is He-Man himself; I definitely prefer the ripped MOTUC version to the gangly, macaroni-haired, BDSM harness-wearing 200X version.
Posted 09/11/2008 at 09:35:26 AMI remember when the 2002 figures came out, and saying to myself--"AWESOME! BUT WHERE'S THE ARTICULATION?!!"(it happened during a short period where I shouted everything).
I for one, would fall over myself for updated, articulated version of the 'naughties He-Man figures. They took the whacked-out bare essences of the He-Man universe and did everything right. Except for the articulation. This could be the chance to rectify that.
VOTE OR DIE!
Posted 09/11/2008 at 10:58:16 AMThe Classics aren't bad, honestly. They aren't great, either, and that's probably the problem. The 2002 character re-designs were VASTLY superior to the 1980's designs, and after seeing the 2002 action figures for myself, I decided the old 80's figures were fucking garbage in comparison.
My old real bitch is that MattyCollector.com wants $20 dollars a figure for them. Wow, way to go, Mattel. Make toys my kids will beg for but put them up for sale at a price no sane man will spend.
Posted 09/11/2008 at 11:34:22 AMI voted, and I don't even care!
Haw, jokes on them!

Posted 09/11/2008 at 05:29:35 PMAlso the distribution of the figures (aka everyone other than He-Man and Skeletor being SHORTPACKED AS FUCK)
As lame as the 80's versions are, they brought me endless hours of joy between the age of 5 and, umm, now. But I hardly need reissues, I've still got a box overflowing with original figures (man I wish I had the original packaging).
Posted 09/11/2008 at 08:07:55 PMI hope they use the new designs when they make the movie, instead of letting Micheal Bay do the character designs.
Masters of the Universe Classics are not shitty looking, and neither are the original figures. MotU Classics are sculpted by the Four Horsemen, and, if you didn't notice, King Grayskull wasa perfect blend of the original style AND the figures from 2002. You can rest assured, Trap-Jaw will not suck.
Posted 09/11/2008 at 08:37:29 PMi love the new motc line to me i like this style much better then the 2002 line i guess im old school since i grew up in the 80`s they remind me of the old school style but with a twist of the future with better articulation and accurate cartoon likeness these figures will do realy well with alot of collectors like me !!!!!!
