More Unbelievably Awesome Watchmen Footage

Wow. Just...wow. I know people are still concerned about the ending hoohah, but it's hard to watch this and believe that director Zack Snyder doesn't know what he's doing. It's so gorgeous I've got to give him the benefit of the doubt, at least. (Via /Film)

I just watched it with no sound.

I have goosebumps and my nipples are hard.

I remain unconvinced. I like some of the things that I'm seeing, but I don't like that Nite Owl has clearly just become a Batman clone, and not the impotent, overweight, milquetoast self-doubting Blue Beetle stand-in he's supposed to be.

Also, did anyone notice how the Scream Awards were apparently shot through the same filter they use for Barbara Walters specials?

Look I am just glad we won't have to see a blue wang for 2 and a half hours. And I still think that Owlman will be more blue beetalish, but if they showed him being a sad sack in the trailers it would not get people who didn't read the comics to go see it.

Looks good, but it makes me wonder when Zach Snyder is gonna have some source material of his own to use....

I guess it's cool nowadays to bite off Frank Miller and Alan Moore.

I don't especially like the shot following the watch tick, where Dr. Manhattan transports he and Laurie presumably to the destruction scene at the end of the film. Too much rubble; not enough bodies. The coupled with the news of the energy reactors or whatever kinda worries me for the ending. Snyder and Warner need to man up and not worry about showing a bunch of dead, ravaged bodies on the streets on New York in today's post-9/11 world. And include the squid, ha.

Ahhh that was amazing I have chills. Snyder should keep periodically releasing more bits till the movie comes out. March is still so far away, I can't wait.

It had like... 15% new footage. But still, I'm convinced that the movie will kick more ass than any other superhero movie we'll see in 2009.

This doesn't make me feel any better. In fact, it's worse than before. The movie is clearly style over substance, just like EVERY MOVIE ZACK SNYDER HAS EVER MADE. I was not suprised in the least that Snyder tampering with the ending. The only thing worse than Snyder being such a douche is seeing peoples' vain hope that he has magically turned into a completely different person than he always has been. He's brought pretentious merchandizing to a true work of art, ignored the wishes of the person that created it, and then tampered with the material. Who rapes the Watchmen? Zack Snyder, that's who.

Snoodle said:

*drools* Not a ton of new footage, but enough to keep you interested. I would sort of like a bit more dialogue though...see how well the actors are delivering their lines.

I'm excited. Let's not forget that Zack Snyder also directed a shit-ton of Morrissey videos. If Snyder can live up to Moz's monstrous ego, Moore shouldn't be that far behind.

That's right, I'm a nerd who listens to Morrissey. What.

Friginator said:

I'm a nerd who listens to My Chemical Romance. What.

Anyway, there's a huge difference between Snyder's TV ads and music videos and Wathmen's serious drama. Hell, the Watchmen trailer was practically a music video anyway. Snyder definitely has a huge, reckless ego, but that's still almost never a good thing when you're trying to make a serious, faithful movie based on a book. almost every news story I've heard about Watchmen: The Movie is about how great the special effects or set designs are, or about how awesome the merchandise looks. Also, I think people are forgetting how unfaithful 300 was to the book. Half the plot was never in the book, they replaced soldiers with zombies and monsters, and most of it wasn't even shot-by-shot like the comic, which is what it was hyped as being before it came out.

Oscar said:

My Chemical Romance is to Moz as Rob Liefeld is to Alan Moore.

All I know is that the film isn't even out yet. Not even through post-production yet. It's one thing to be pessimistic, but you're already shelving it as total shite. Zack Snyder isn't Scorsese, but isn't exactly Uwe Boll either. Let's reserve judgment until we actually see it, shall we?

Plus you listen to My Chemical Romance. What the Hell do you know about anything, you're probably 14.

Friginator said:

Whoa, no need to insult my taste in music or insinuate that I'm just some little kid who doesn't know what he's talking about. I'm just pointing out Snyder's track record.

I'm not insisting that the movie is shit, I'm just saying that I am very pessimistic and do not personally believe that this movie should be made at all. I disagree with the concept regardless of how cool the movie looks. Snyder isn't Uwe Boll, but at least Uwe Boll doesn't make movies about anything important to so many people.

Oscar said:

Dude, we're engaging in a fanboy argument. Aren't we supposed to insult each other's tastes?

I'm not liking that nuclear explosion at the end with Silk Spectre 2 and Nite Owl 2 kissing in front of it. Threatens that whole alternate ending rumor. It makes no sense to resolve the world's nuclear stand off by blowing things up. The other dimensional monster that unites humanity may seem silly to some, but so is the idea of people fighting crime in costume. Wouldn't have much of a movie without them, though, would you?

Red said:

I'm pretty sure the kissing scene is from Nite Owl's dream after he and Silk Spectre 2 attempt to have sex for the first time.

That said, I know there's a good chance it'll be disappointing, but I can't wait for it to come out. The trailer looks amazing, although the overuse of slow-mo in both trailers is a bit suspicious.

Bootquick said:

Fuck you guys, this movie looks awesome.

Friginator said:

Exactly my point. The movie will undoubtedly LOOK awesome, like Zack Snyder's other stuff. Watchmen isn't about being flashy or cool looking. That's exactly why Dave Gibbons did it. Because he draws superheroes in a more realistic and often unflattering way. Zack Snyder is so caught up with making everything look cool that he forgets to be faithful to what the book was about. An alien squid was too goofy looking for him, so he replaced it with some weird doomsday weapon that vaporizes people.

Joe said:

Yep, Red, you're right. I re-read the book today and that scene is from Dan's dream. So I retract my concern in that case and replace it with admiration for so nicely reproducing that shot. Still, after reading it again I have to say the interdimensional space octopus thing is a great ending that deserves to be kept, along with all the intricate plot that leads up to it. Unless the magic reactors all the spoilers are talking about somehow generate a psychic field that makes people afraid and feel unified it doesn't seem like it would be effective in the same way.

Friginator said:

Look at the evidence! It just vaporizes people! It was in the VERY FIRST TRAILER! It was during that final brawl out on the street from the end of issue 11. All the minor characters fight, then the squid gets teleported. It happens in the trailer right before the screen goes black and someone say, "God help us all!" Then you have shots of Nite Owl and Silk Spectre being teleported to a totally destroyed city, with no corpses or squids to bee seen! I'm not even going to point out how unfaithful Ozymandias looks. He's like some emo mad scientist, instead of the "innocent" good guy he is in the book. Everyone's going to see that coming!

pete said:

not liking Rorschach's body movement, a couple of times when hes talking hes moving his head around to much, he needs to look more stiff, sad, and over all depressed

And have you guys seen nite owls suit.It looks like Batman. Some people might mistake it for another Batman movie.
