I know! It's tough! But as it turns out, one is Yen Sid, the ludicrously named Sorcerer of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" as featured in the Disney masterpiece Fantasia, and one is Yen Sid as played by Nic Cage in Jerry Bruckheimer's live-action movie of The Sorcerer's Apprentice. I know you're stunned by the accuracy and commitment to detail of the new movie that would lead these two pics to be virtually indistinguishable, but I assure what you're seeing is real -- oh, and Cage is the one on the right, in case you couldn't tell.
...sigh. I admit, despite my utter hatred and fear of Jerry Bruckheimer movies, I did really enjoy the first Pirates of the Carribbean movie. And I love Fantasia, so I'll -- very regretfully -- be giving this a shot. But the fact that Cage is dressed exactly like Hugh Jackman in Van Helsing means I probably won't be watching sober. According to my souce in hollywood, that actuall is not his costume. That is what Nick puts on when he takes a rented van down to local schools to hand out free candy.
So no big worry. Now what is really spot on is the Danny Devito Micky Mouse suit, it is like looking into a cartoon.

Well, hmmm. I have a few thoughts. On one hand, yes, Van Helsing never looked more surly. Maybe he got a ticket for double parking his brooms.
But on the other hand, it's set in New York, and if you were to come in to contact with a guy who claims to be a sorcerer, I suppose the look fits the bill. Cage has always done testy and uncomfortably individualistic very well, and this would indicate where he's taking the character. Remember, the success of the Pirates films were the smart casting of the roles - did anyone honestly expect Johnny Depp to transform our notion of pirates the way he did? Between Cage and Baruchel, I think we've got a recipe for a potentially fun film.

I like the guy on the right of the photo. He looks like he's trying hard not to laugh.

The character's name isn't Yen Sid in this one though, it's Balthazar Blake. Because, y'know, it's a far less ridiculous-sounding name.

You know, I'm not surprised that Cage decided to dress up as Dresden.
Considering that he y'know, was an executive producer on the SciFi series.

I just had a thought.
What if this is going to end up being a "re-imagining" of it?
Because if it is, we might be seeing a bit of a play on Dresden Files.
I could see The Apprentice being Molly, but who am I to say.
Maybe I'm just hoping too hard.

It would be awesome if they stuck to the source material and made the antagonists anthropomorphic mops out to flood the world.
