I think they should go the Doom route and make a sequence entirely made up to look like the video game… in 3D. I know asteroids would kick ass in 3D, look at that picture above! I tell you! It’s GENIUS!!!

I can totally see just making a sci-fi film wherein at some point they save the planet from a space menace and slapping the name on it. But in that case, why even bother with the licensing? There's no way they could ever get you for story infringement upon the Asteroid franchise just because someone in your film happens to shoot at an asteroid.
This leaves the only conclusion that for some reason, someone out there wants to make a completely accurate representation of this game. And that's just wrong.

Let Michael Bay direct. It will get him away from Transformers and he can throw in all the explosions and fart jokes he wants.

I don't know if mass audiences are ready for this. I always found the plot of Asteroids a bit contrived and hard to follow, much like the Metal Gear storylines.
Best to keep it as simple as possible, like the new Transformers movie.

Lord knows the Asteroids writing was better than ROTF, as I don't recall an asteroid heaven.
