Yes, that's "TANK!", the awesome opening song to the Cowboy Bebop anime, played by Maryland's Towson University's marching band. Since I love both Bebop and was a marching band nerd myself in high school (and I'm going to guess not a small portion of TR readers were/are as well; it just always seems to work out that way) I love the living shit out of this. Between this and Klenginem, it's already been an impressive day for nerdery -- and there's still more to come. (Via AnimeVice)

Not bad, not bad at all. Too bad they couldn't get a proper copy from a press box with better sound fidelity, but hey, they got the good stuff.
Being in band at my school was FAR from a status of nerdery. In Middle Georgia, it was almost as cool to be part of the band as it was to be on a sports team. Our band leader incorporated a lot of Mo-Town songs into our routines.

This video is terrible. Quite possibly our worst performance. We had little practice cause we had been inside a lot, and that morning. Plus the rain.
If you want to see a good video of our show, become a fan of Bio-TOXIC Studios on facebook. They have videos/photos of the band. Professional grade videos from the press box.

Oh FFS. Watching this was like seeing Cloverfield all over again, except instead of a giant scary monster it was a giant...scary...marching band? You know what I mean. Motion sickness-causing.
When I was in marching band, we played Cantina Band and the theme from 2001. We kicked ass on a weekly basis.

Seeing this reminded me why I quit marching band for football. All that work (nearly as much as what was put in for football) but no promise of 'tang. The closest my band got to "cool" was some stupid song by "Chicago". And we sounded like every other HS band...like an elephant with diarhea.
Memories, memories.

Hmm. I'm unfamiliar with Cowboy Bebop. Upon further Googling it seems pretty cool, I might have to check it out.... Love the song, though. Kinda reminds me of The Incredibles theme at parts.

That is a little too awesome. I may have to lie down.

Marching band did one useful thing for me, and that was fulfilling my PE credit in high school. Can't say we played anything memorable or interesting, though.

I am way too musically retarded to play any instrument, but I am a Towson University Alumni and can say that I have never been more proud of my little school! Very nerd happy right now.
Now off to put my TU Business Degree to good use... waiting tables. :/

Got ot say that was awesome!
As Bebop is one of only 3 anime that I'v ever rated perfect, pretty much abything that gets it more recognition is all good by me...

@MattK: Hopefully some of the less quality sounds were due to the general wetness messing with the woodwinds, but yeah, it would have been nice to see if they were making vaguely nerdy forms as they played.
College marching bands tend to play a lot more fun stuff than most of us ever did in high school. For example, the directors of the college band I'm in finally agreed to redo one of the fav shows from the past, so we got to play a Video Game show that culminates with a field sized Mario jumping over fireballs. ^_^

Cowboy Bebop is arguably the best anime EVER, and one of the only ones to have a truly good soundtrack- nice one!

My aunt is a professor of Music at Towson University and a former opera singer (she was at the Met). It is a very musical school. Any bad notes, etc would be due to the weather, recording, or if it was a new song. As for the awesomeness of it, well that is without question. :D

I arranged Tank! for my high school's jazz ensemble when I was a sophomore. They haven't tried to play it again since I left (we did Rush, from the same anime, my senior year).

I also went to Towson University. If they did cool stuff like this when I was there, maybe i would have suffered through a sporting event or two.

I'd be slightly more thrilled if it were H.T. from Trigun, but awesome nonetheless. Never got to play any cool songs in high school, but this brings back the memories all the same.

Very cool. Bebop is easily in the top 5 of greatest anime series ever made. So great in fact, that dubbing it in english actually made it better. Find another anime you can say that about.

This would be cool to me if I hadn't gone to high school with one of the guys in that band who, I'm sorry, is too socially awkward and nerdy to live. It just nullifies any coolness.

Wow... the band did a good job with the song, but as an ex-Colorguard dork-girl, I'm just shaking my head. My high school Guard was more together than that one, and we were pretty crap. Unless everyone there was supposed to just do their own individual routine.

Ha yea that's me out there. I don't think u can see me in the clip but I was playing trumpet. This song was such a good choice. I never saw Cowboy Bebop but Tank is still an awesome song. It's funny when it's introduced no one in the crowd responds except for maybe one or two people.
@wide brimmed hat
I know exactly who you're talking about. And I'm so sorry u had to go to school with him. He's currently asked my gf out about 3 times... in front of me.

Fellow anime/band/drum corps nerds: If you want to see a whole drum corps show of awesome anime nerdiness, watch the Blue Stars from 2004. They play the opening from Gundam Wing, then Tank!, then Princess Mononoke, then a reprise of Gundam Wing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T22a_Nq7pHk
This is a link to the entire 10-minute show, so skip to the 3:00 mark for some groovy Tank! action.
(I watched a senior corps (read: over age 21) play Tank back in 2006, but there doesn't seem to be any video of it online.)
